The La Laguna City Council begins on Monday, July 13 the repaving works on La Trinidad Avenue, with an estimated duration of three weeks and phased traffic closures.

La Trinidad Avenue, one of the main access routes to the historic centre of La Laguna, will undergo extensive rehabilitation starting next Monday, July 13. The Department of Works, Infrastructure and Accessibility has announced that the works will last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

Improvement of the pavement and renewal of services

The intervention includes the removal of the current pavement to repair the surface, review the sewage system and other underground installations, and lay a new surface layer with more durable materials. Some curb cuts and sidewalks will also be improved, and damaged public furniture elements will be renewed.

The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, has highlighted that “these works will significantly improve the safety and appearance of one of the main arteries of our central area.” The mayor noted that the chosen timing is favourable as traffic decreases due to the end of the school year, the Padre Anchieta footbridge has opened, and the main events of the San Benito Abad festivities have concluded.

Phases and schedules to minimise disruption

The councillor for Works, Ángel Chinea, explained that the works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to local businesses and restaurants. Daytime interventions will be combined with nighttime work in areas where it is necessary to limit the impact on traffic.

Chinea reminded that similar works are currently being completed on Barcelona Street, very close to La Trinidad Avenue, which will allow for coordinated improvements to the entire area.

Information for residents and access to services

The City Council has previously informed residents of the affected areas about traffic closures and diversions, schedules, and contact numbers for incidents. Meetings have also been held with the company managing the public parking located on the avenue and with representatives from the nearby health centre to ensure access for goods vehicles and emergencies.

Drivers who usually use this route should plan for alternative diversions, especially during peak hours. The council recommends checking the municipal website for real-time updates on the status of the closures.
