The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has opened the application period to obtain a taxi driver's licence. Interested parties have until July 20 to register. The tests will take place in September.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched a new call for obtaining a taxi driver licence in the capital. Until July 20, interested individuals can submit their applications at the Auxiliary Registry, located at Avenida Tres de Mayo number 40, or through the electronic headquarters of the City Council. Those who pass the exam will be able to work as taxi drivers in the municipality.
45 applications submitted so far
According to data provided by the City Council, 45 applications have already been registered from individuals wishing to join the taxi service in Santa Cruz. This figure indicates moderate interest, although the City Council is hopeful that the still-open application period will attract more candidates.
The selection process consists of a multiple-choice test with 40 questions and three answer options. Candidates will have 90 minutes to complete the exam. To pass, it will be necessary to demonstrate knowledge of the Municipal Ordinance regulating the Vehicle Rental Service with Taximeter, published in the BOP on January 10, 2024.
Requirements: from driving licence B to basic English
In addition to holding a class B driving licence, candidates must not suffer from infectious diseases or physical limitations incompatible with the profession. They must also prove the requirement of honourability, meaning they should not have criminal convictions for serious offences or have been declared unfit for passenger transport by road.
Another new requirement is that a level of basic English is necessary, as well as knowledge of the Good Practice Manual for customer service. The City Council aims to improve service quality in a city that receives thousands of foreign tourists each year.
The tests will be held during the first half of September. Those who pass will obtain the municipal permit to work as taxi drivers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
For the residents of the capital, this call represents a job opportunity in a sector that, despite the competition from digital platforms, remains key to urban mobility. The City Council reminds that the application can be downloaded from the municipal website (www.santacruzdetenerife.es) or collected at the Citizen Attention Offices.
