Five people have been affected, including a 13-year-old who jumped from the building, in a fire that broke out in a home on Fernando Sagaseta Street in Telde.

A fire that broke out on Wednesday at noon in a home in the Jinámar neighbourhood of Telde has left five people affected to varying degrees. The fire, which originated in a flat of a building on Fernando Sagaseta Street, mobilised firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, who rescued seven people and several animals from inside the property.

A minor jumps from the building

The most serious incident involved a 13-year-old boy, who, faced with the flames, jumped from the building. According to the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the boy had moderate injuries at the initial moment of assistance, but without complications. He was transported by ambulance to the Materno Infantil University Hospital of Gran Canaria.

Additionally, two 71-year-old women were affected. One suffered moderate intoxication from smoke inhalation and was referred to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria. The other was treated for an anxiety crisis and taken to the Jinámar Health Centre.

Emergency services intervention

The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre 112 received the alert around 12:30 PM. Local and National Police forces were dispatched to the scene, securing the area and carrying out the necessary procedures. Civil Protection members also assisted.

The firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, which completely affected the home, and ventilated the building to eliminate the smoke. The fire did not spread to other homes, as confirmed by sources from the Emergency Consortium.

For the residents of Jinámar, this incident has been a shock. The swift action of the emergency services prevented a greater tragedy, but the scare and material loss have left a mark on the community.
