The Cabildo of Tenerife and the Candelaria Town Hall inaugurate the IV Craft Fair Patron of the Canary Islands, which brings together 20 artisans in the Plaza de los Pescadores until Sunday, August 2.
The Plaza de los Pescadores in Candelaria hosts the IV Craft Fair Patron of the Canary Islands from this Saturday, an event that gathers around twenty artisans from the island. The exhibition, organized by the Cabildo of Tenerife through the Insular Craft Company, in collaboration with the Candelaria Town Hall, will remain open until Sunday, August 2, from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00.
The Councillor for Employment and Education of the Cabildo, Efraín Medina, and the Mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, toured the exhibition to learn firsthand about the work of the exhibitors. During the visit, Medina highlighted that "it is a pride to celebrate this gathering in such an ideal setting as Candelaria," emphasizing that the fair "not only boosts the craft sector but also safeguards our heritage, and each exhibited piece contains a fragment of the Canary essence."
For her part, Mayor Mari Brito stressed that "the care, promotion, and preservation of our identity constitute one of the pillars of Candelaria's cultural policies. The Craft Fair has established itself as a benchmark and an unmissable event for both residents and visitors, becoming a unique space to highlight our traditions and the talent of our artisans, whose crafts are still preserved by many families in Candelaria and our island."
The mayor also highlighted that this event marks the transition between the patronal festivals of Santa Ana and El Carmen and the celebrations in honour of the Patron of the Canary Islands, reinforcing the link between our cultural expressions and the heritage that identifies us. Finally, she invited locals and visitors to come to the Plaza de los Pescadores to enjoy this encounter with traditions and craftsmanship.
The route through the 21 tents set up in the Plaza de los Pescadores allows the public to learn firsthand about the work of 20 artisans. The exhibition covers 13 crafts ranging from historical trades such as lace-making, willow weaving, and rosettes, to proposals in almazuelas, carpentry, candle-making, fabric decoration, enamelling, leatherwork, modelling, dressmaking, doll-making, and stained glass.
The space includes information services and card payment facilities to facilitate purchases, consolidating this fair as a key summer event to discover and acquire unique pieces of Canary craftsmanship.
The fair, which celebrates its fourth edition this year, has become a meeting point for lovers of traditional Canary craftsmanship. Visitors can observe live how artisans create their pieces, from lace-making to candle-making, and purchase unique products that reflect the identity of the islands.
For the residents of Candelaria and the entire island, this event represents an opportunity to engage with trades that are part of the collective memory. Many of the families participating in the fair have been dedicated to these manual jobs for generations, and their presence at such events helps ensure their continuity.
The organization has set up an information service on-site to address attendees' queries, as well as a card payment system to facilitate purchases. The extended hours, both in the morning and afternoon, allow for a leisurely visit to the fair and to enjoy the surroundings of the Plaza de los Pescadores, one of the most emblematic spots in the municipality.
