The organisation of the 12th Rallye Ciudad de La Laguna – Trofeo Worten has announced its intention to aspire to the Spanish Asphalt Rally Championship (CERA). The delegated commission of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation has already approved the pre-inspection.

The event in La Laguna, which has been held for twelve editions, has taken a giant step by receiving the green light from the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEA) for the pre-inspection regarding its potential inclusion in the CERA. This was confirmed by Miguel Ángel Domínguez, president of the Canary Islands Automobile Federation, during the official presentation of the event.

The announcement comes at a time of consolidation for the rally, which this year is already part of the International Iberian Rallye Trophy, a competition held between Spain and Portugal. The Tenerife event has not only grown in participation but has also managed to attract top-level figures, such as European champions Efrén Llarena and Sara Fernández in 2025.

A Sustained Growth Towards the CERA

Sport Eventos Tenerife, the organiser of the event, has been at the helm of the rally for a decade. Since then, the competition has climbed positions in the regional and national landscape. Currently, it is the event with the highest number of entries in the regional rally calendar, a fact that attests to its popularity and organisational capacity.

Francisco Negrín, president of the Interinsular Automobile Federation of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has closely followed the process. Events in his territorial scope are gaining weight in national calendars, and the Rallye Ciudad de La Laguna is a clear example of this.

Badel Albelo, president of the Autonomous Sports Organisation of the La Laguna City Council, expressed his satisfaction with the direction the event has taken. “It is a pride to see how the rally grows and projects itself at a national level,” he stated during the event.

The Fans, Key to the National Leap

The organisation has emphasised the importance of public behaviour. For the event to make the leap to the CERA, it is essential that fans respect safety rules and the environment. “The success of the rally would not be possible without their collaboration,” sources from the organisation reminded.

The safety area of the La Laguna event has functioned perfectly in previous editions, but the organisation requests an extra effort for future aspirations. The cooperation of spectators will be crucial for the RFEA to give the final approval.

For residents of La Laguna and the municipalities in northern Tenerife, the potential entry into the CERA would mean a boost in tourism and the economy. National events attract teams, fans, and media from all over Spain, resulting in greater media and commercial impact for the region.

Registration Deadline and Next Steps

The deadline to register for the 12th Rallye Ciudad de La Laguna – Trofeo Worten ends this Wednesday, 8th July at 14:00 hours. The organisation reminds that teams with reserved spots must formalise their registration before that moment. All information is available on the official website: www.rallyeciudaddelalaguna.com.

The event is supported by the La Laguna City Council, the Tenerife Cabildo, the Government of the Canary Islands, and several private sponsors, such as Worten, Archiauto, and Hotel Laguna Nivaria. The municipalities of Tegueste, Tacoronte, El Rosario, and Candelaria, through which the stages will run, also collaborate.

The pre-inspection approved by the RFEA is the first step towards an ambitious goal: for the Rallye Ciudad de La Laguna to become a scoring event for the Spanish Asphalt Rally Championship. If achieved, it would be the first Tenerife event to do so in years, a milestone that would fill the local fans with pride.
