The 12 Rallye Ciudad de La Laguna – Trofeo Worten kicked off this Wednesday with the shakedown in La Milagrosa. Enrique Cruz and Alexey Lukyanuk, two of the top favourites, have already faced off.
The asphalt of Tenerife has roared once again. The 12 Rallye Ciudad de La Laguna – Trofeo Worten held its traditional shakedown on Wednesday in the La Milagrosa stage, a first contact with the competition that served as an appetizer for what is to come. Up to a dozen teams participated in this non-timed session.
The heat, with temperatures exceeding 25 degrees, was the unexpected guest. The drivers sweated profusely to fine-tune their machines before the final assault. The organisation, led by Sport Eventos Tenerife, took advantage of Wednesday afternoon to finalise the details.
Titan clash in La Milagrosa
Two of the standout names in the Canary Islands Asphalt Rally Championship (CCRA) met on the stage. Enrique Cruz, accompanied by Yeray Mujica in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, exchanged impressions with Alexey Lukyanuk, two-time European champion, who was driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 with Yury Kulikov. Both teams took advantage of the runs to fine-tune their setups.
The Tenerife native Cruz, one of the most decorated drivers in the archipelago, is looking to score important points in his home territory. Meanwhile, the Russian Lukyanuk, based in the Canary Islands, wants to show why he was a continental champion. The rivalry promises intense emotions throughout the weekend.
More participants and an electric car
They were not the only ones. Óscar Dóniz and Rayco Hernández (Suzuki Swift Rally2-Kit), Cristian del Castillo and Juan José del Castillo (Citroën C3 N5), Airan Mejías and José Agustín de la Torre (BMW M3 E46), José Manuel de León and Néstor Gómez (Ford Fiesta Rally4), as well as Sara Dorta and Maite Gutiérrez (Ford Fiesta Rally4) also completed the list of participants in the shakedown.
One of the vehicles that attracted the most attention was the 100% electric Opel Corsa from the Canary Islands Automobile Federation. A nod to sustainable mobility that demonstrates that engines can also be silent. The public, although sparse, was able to enjoy a preview of the spectacle to come.
Documentation and accreditation delivery
The machinery does not stop. This Thursday, July 16, the facilities of Worten in La Laguna will host the delivery of documentation for the teams, from 17:30 to 19:30 hours. At the same place and time, accreditations for the media will be distributed.
The logistics of the rally are complex, but the organisers have everything under control. The City Council of La Laguna, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and the Government of the Canary Islands, among others, support an event that has already become a classic on the regional calendar.
For fans, the event is a must. On Saturday, the roar of engines will once again fill the roads of the region. Anyone wanting to see the best drivers of the archipelago in action knows where to be.
