Tenerife driver Ángel Bello triumphed this Saturday in the Betancuria Hill Climb (Fuerteventura) and took a nearly definitive step towards the Canary Islands Mountain Championship.
Tenerife driver Ángel Bello, at the wheel of his Audi R8 LMS Ultra Evo, claimed victory in the Betancuria Hill Climb, held this Saturday on the island of Fuerteventura. With this win, the Audi Canarias driver strengthens his lead in the 2026 Canary Islands Mountain Championship (CCM), with only two events remaining in the series.
Bello was the fastest in all runs of the majorera event, from the practice sessions to the final run. In the practice session, he clocked a time of 3:32.247, which helped him regain confidence on the Betancuria track. In the first official climb, he stopped the clock at 3:23.938, a time that positioned him as the main contender for victory.
In the final run, the Tenerife driver improved his time again, establishing an excellent 3:20.081, even lowering the mark with which he won the 2025 edition. This time confirmed a new overall victory in the Canary Islands Mountain Championship and marked his second consecutive win in this majorera ramp, as well as his third of the season in the regional championship.
With this result, Bello adds another key victory in his quest to retain the regional title, while also reinforcing his lead in the provincial championship of Las Palmas. The majorera event marked the beginning of the decisive phase of the regional mountain calendar, with only three events left to compete. Following the victory, the Tenerife driver is optimistic about the season's outcome.
“This victory is important for renewing the regional title. We have improved on last year's reference, and that shows the confidence with which we have been driving over these months. Thanks to the fans for their support; now we have one last effort to try to secure the goals set at the beginning of the year,” Bello declared at the end of the event.
The Canary Islands Mountain Championship now faces its final stretch with two scoring events. The next event will be the La Cumbre Hill Climb on the island of El Hierro, scheduled for September. The championship will conclude in December with the Hoyo de Mazo Hill Climb in La Palma.
If he maintains the level shown throughout the season, Bello will arrive at those last two events with serious chances of winning a new regional title, consolidating a campaign marked by consistency and speed at the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS Ultra Evo. Canary motor racing fans are closely following the evolution of the Tenerife driver, who has become one of the references in regional motorsport.
