From July 16 to 19, the capital of La Palma hosts the Fiestas del Carmen with processions, concerts, children's activities, and a gastronomic area.
The capital of La Palma is finalising preparations for one of its most anticipated festive events. The Fiestas del Carmen 2026 will kick off on Thursday, July 16, and will run until Sunday, July 19, featuring a programme that combines religious devotion with entertainment for all ages. The Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council, through the Department of Fiestas, has designed a programme that once again places the area of Los Balcones and the Avenida Marítima at the heart of the celebration.
Four Days of Processions, Humour, and Concerts
The starting point will be the feast of the Virgen del Carmen on Thursday, July 16, with a Eucharist at the Matriz Parish of El Salvador at 18:00. Following this, the traditional procession and the embarkation of the Virgen will take place, an event that gathers hundreds of faithful and curious onlookers each year. “It is one of the most emotional moments of the festive calendar in the capital,” emphasises the Councillor for Fiestas, Raico Arrocha.
That same night, the musical programme will commence on the Los Balcones stage. The comedian Jesús Farráis will kick things off, followed by a concert from the group Rebels. Over the following days, the lineup includes bands such as Bienmesabe, Nueva Línea, Orquesta Tropicana's, Parranda La Palma, Siempre Ellas, Los Lola, Los Stereos, and DJ X. On Sunday, the Parranda Los Derepente and Manolo El Charro will provide the grand finale, accompanied by a large communal paella.
Gastronomy and Activities for the Little Ones
The festive offerings are not limited to music. A gastronomic area will be set up, open throughout the four days, where locals and visitors can taste local products. Additionally, children will have their own space with bouncy castles and a foam party, designed for families to enjoy fully. “We have prepared a programme that combines respect for one of the most deeply rooted religious celebrations with a wide cultural, musical, and leisure offering,” highlights Arrocha.
The councillor encourages citizens to participate actively: “These festivities are a meeting point for neighbours, families, and visitors, and they also contribute to boosting the commercial and hospitality activity of our capital.” The initiative aims to stimulate the local economy during the summer, attracting both residents and tourists staying on the island.
A Commitment to Tradition and Coexistence
With this new edition, the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council reaffirms its commitment to preserving popular traditions and promoting culture. The Fiestas del Carmen are, for many locals, an unmissable event on the summer calendar. The maritime procession, in which the image of the Virgen sails through the bay, remains the central act, but the programme has been enriched with offerings for all tastes.
The events will take place in the afternoon and evening, aiming to allow those who work during the day to join in as well. The Avenida Marítima, which has undergone improvements in recent years, will once again come alive with stalls, music, and the bustle of families. For those who cannot attend every day, Sunday will concentrate the highlights: the communal paella and afternoon performances.
In short, Santa Cruz de La Palma is dressing up to welcome summer with one of its most significant celebrations. The combination of faith, festivity, and gastronomy promises four intense days in which the capital of La Palma will once again demonstrate its ability to host and entertain.
