The organization Encuentros por el Socialismo in the Canary Islands (ESC) will hold a public event on July 26 at Teatro Chico in Santa Cruz de La Palma to present its political proposal on the island.
On July 26 at 12:00, Teatro Chico in Santa Cruz de La Palma will host a public event by the organization Encuentros por el Socialismo in the Canary Islands (ESC). This will be the first time this group presents its political proposal on the island, as part of a tour that has already visited Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
A tour seeking the working youth
According to sources from the organization, the aim of these meetings is to "open a space for debate and organization aimed primarily at the working youth of the Canary Islands". The initiative seeks to lay the foundations for creating a youth socialist organization in the islands, linked to the Socialist Movement.
The previous events in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, held in recent months, focused on analysing from a Marxist perspective the causes of the capitalist crisis, the rise of reactionary positions, and the advancement of trends identified with "contemporary fascism". According to its promoters, these talks attracted dozens of attendees.
Political proposal for the Canary Islands
Now, ESC announces a day to present its political project and organizational proposal for the archipelago in more depth. Its promoters maintain that the goal is to "contribute to the reconstruction of an organized socialist movement in the Canary Islands capable of independently intervening in social and labour conflicts".
The group believes that "a political break with social democracy and reformism is necessary to regain the political independence of the working class". They argue that the working youth is one of the sectors where the contradictions of the economic system manifest most intensely, making the promotion of a specific organization essential.
Specific problems in the Canary Islands
The talk in Santa Cruz de La Palma will focus on the concrete consequences that the crisis of capitalism has in the Canary Islands and the need to build a stable and independent organization of the working class. ESC claims that its proposal aims to address issues such as job insecurity, access to housing, the deterioration of living conditions for youth, and the organizational weakness of the workers' movement in the archipelago.
In the words of the organization:
"Only a political organization independent of capital interests will allow for progress towards a profound transformation of society and the recovery of a socialist project with the ambition to once again become a mass reference."
Music and community to close the day
The event will conclude with a DJ set by Calamity Jane and Withard, a format that ESC has been using to combine political debate, training, and spaces for community among militants and supporters. With this call, the organization expands its territorial presence and continues the strategy initiated at the beginning of the year with events in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, aiming to extend its project across the entire archipelago.
For residents of La Palma interested in political debate, the date is next Saturday, July 26 at 12:00 at Teatro Chico in Santa Cruz de La Palma. Admission is free and the event will include music at the end.
