On July 23, the Fuerteventura Congress Palace will host a historic meeting: for the first time, the six women who have presided over or currently lead the island cabildos of the Canary Islands will sit together to discuss female leadership and public service. The event, organized by the association Charter 100 Canarias, promises to be a milestone in highlighting the role of women in island politics.
A Star-Studded Panel for a Round Table
Under the title “The 6 Fantastics”, the round table will bring together M. Eugenia Márquez Rodríguez (former president of Gran Canaria), Inés Rojas de León (former president of Lanzarote), Guadalupe González Taño (former president of La Palma), Belén Allende Riera (former president of El Hierro), Rosa Dávila Mamely (current president of Tenerife), and Dolores Alicia García Martínez (current president of Fuerteventura). The conversation will be moderated by Nardy Barrios Curbelo, a lawyer and president of Charter 100 Canarias.
The event not only celebrates the careers of these politicians but also marks the launch of Charter 100 Fuerteventura, chaired by Clara Peña. This new delegation aims to promote female leadership on the island of Fuerteventura, following the lead of the parent association.
More than Recognition, an Inspiration
Charter 100 Canarias, founded on March 8, 2015, works in four key areas: businesswomen, entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders. Its goal is to highlight the contribution of women in all areas of society, generating role models for new generations. With “The 6 Fantastics,” the association reaffirms its commitment to equality and real equity.
For attendees, the meeting will be a unique opportunity to hear firsthand the experiences of those who have broken glass ceilings in Canary politics.
