The piece, with over six decades of history, will be presented this Friday in Lomo Magullo. It coincides with the 675th anniversary of the city and the 55th anniversary of the Bajada of the Virgin.
The throne of Our Lady of the Snows, Celestial Mayor and Perpetual of Telde, has undergone a comprehensive restoration that has restored the shine to a piece with more than 60 years of history. The recovery is presented as a heritage gift in the year of the city's 675th anniversary.
The presentation event will take place next Friday, July 24, at the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, in the Lomo Magullo neighbourhood. At 19:30, a Holy Mass will be celebrated, and at the end, the results of the intervention will be revealed.
The event will be attended by the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Teodoro Sosa, along with municipal authorities and representatives of the Church. The parish community and the residents of Lomo Magullo will be the first to see the restored throne.
The work has been meticulous: the pieces of the throne were disassembled and treated individually with cleaning, conservation, and polishing processes. Welds were made where necessary, and a 999 silver bath was applied, along with a protective treatment against oxidation and humidity.
The restoration has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Presidency Department of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Diocese of the Canary Islands, the Parish of Our Lady of the Snows, and the Town Hall of Telde. These institutions have joined efforts to preserve a piece of great heritage, religious, and sentimental value.
The councillor for the Cumbre District and Cultural Heritage, Juan Martel, highlighted the satisfaction of seeing the throne restored after months of coordination. “We preserve our memory, protect our heritage, and leave a legacy for future generations, in addition to a gift for Lomo Magullo and for Telde on its 675th anniversary,” he stated.

The throne will debut its new look at the traditional Bajada of the Virgin, a celebration that began in 1971 and this year marks 55 years of history. This deeply rooted tradition in Lomo Magullo is part of festivities with over a century of devotion.
The recovery also comes close to the 50th anniversary of the appointment of Our Lady of the Snows as Celestial Mayor and Perpetual of Telde. This distinction reflects the Virgin's bond not only with Lomo Magullo but with the entire city.
Thus, more than a century of devotion, over 60 years of the throne's history, 55 years of the Bajada, and nearly half a century as perpetual mayor coincide at the same moment. For the residents of Telde, the restoration represents the recovery of an identity symbol that will accompany the Virgin in her processional outings.
The Town Hall of Telde has emphasized that the intervention guarantees the conservation of the throne for future generations. The work has respected the essence and original elements of the piece.
With the presentation this Friday, Lomo Magullo is preparing to experience an emotional day. The restored throne will return to the streets in the next Bajada, scheduled for the patronal festivities. It will be then that the faithful can see it again in procession, laden with memories and promises.
