The Teldense neighbourhood of Lomo Magullo has presented the programme for the festival in honour of the Virgin of the Snows, which will take place from July 24 to August 9. The 56th edition of the Traditional Traída del Agua and the opening speech by local resident Pepe López are the main attractions.
The neighbourhood of Lomo Magullo, in Telde, is all set for its patronal festival in honour of the Virgin of the Snows, the municipality's perpetual mayor. The programme, presented this Monday in the neighbourhood square, will run from July 24 to August 9 and combines religious events, tradition, music, and activities for all ages.
The festival is organised by the Patronato El Naciente, with the collaboration of the Telde City Council and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. The presentation event was attended by the mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña; the councillor for Culture, Juan Martel; the president of Patronato El Naciente, Juan Antonio Hernández; this edition's announcer, Pepe López; the programme designer, Alejandro Jiménez; and the community representative, Carmencita Lozano.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the Traditional Traída del Agua, which reaches its 56th edition on Sunday, August 9. This event, deeply rooted in local culture, gathers thousands of people every summer in one of the most representative popular manifestations of Telde and Gran Canaria. After the Traída del Agua, locals and visitors will share a communal paella, and the day will conclude with a lively dance featuring the group Luz de Luna.
During the presentation, Mayor Juan Antonio Peña highlighted that
“Lomo Magullo represents the pride of our roots. These festivals are an example of how a neighbourhood keeps its identity alive generation after generation thanks to the commitment of its residents. The Traída del Agua is one of Telde's great symbols and an emotional heritage that transcends our borders.”He also congratulated Patronato El Naciente for their work and thanked everyone involved in making the celebrations possible.
For his part, the councillor for Culture, Juan Martel, emphasised that
“these festivals reflect the cultural and ethnographic richness of our municipality. Tradition and participation go hand in hand again in a programme designed for neighbours, families, and visitors of all ages to enjoy.”
The president of Patronato El Naciente, Juan Antonio Hernández, valued the collective effort behind each edition:
“The festivals are the result of the selfless work of many people who feel a deep love for Lomo Magullo. Our goal remains to preserve our traditions and pass them on to new generations.”
On Friday, July 24, the traditional parade will lead to the opening speech of the festival, which this year will be delivered by Pepe López, a beloved local resident. Coming from a family linked to the history of Lomo Magullo, his appointment as announcer is a recognition of a lifetime of commitment to the neighbourhood. The inaugural day will conclude with a popular dance.
The presentation also served to unveil the new visual identity of Patronato El Naciente, which has launched a new logo and corporate image. The redesign embraces a minimalist and contemporary graphic language while maintaining its connection to the history and traditions of Lomo Magullo. The new icon integrates elements such as the church tower, the Traída del Agua, the mountains, and the sun, evoking the heritage and natural environment of the neighbourhood.
The festive calendar combines religious and popular events with a wide cultural and leisure programme. On Saturday, July 25, there will be a night of concerts featuring Savia Nueva and Son de la Isla. A pastry competition, inflatable games for children, a solidarity snack, and the VIII Folkloric Festival of the Cultural Association Erasmo Hernández, with invited groups from Madeira and Firgas, are also planned.
The traditional Romería Ofrenda, on Tuesday, August 4, will parade through the streets of the neighbourhood and will be followed by a dance with Nueva Imagen, Su Bandurria, and Estrella Latina. On August 5, Maestro Florido and Domingo Rodríguez “El Colorao,” along with their daughters Julia and Ayla Rodríguez, will perform in one of the most anticipated evenings.
