The City Council of La Laguna and ecca.edu have signed the renewal of the agreement that continues the project ‘Cultural Classroom for Seniors' Centres 2026’, which includes training workshops and leisure activities.
The City Council of La Laguna and the educational entity ecca.edu have renewed their collaboration to maintain the ‘Cultural Classroom for Seniors' Centres 2026’ programme. The agreement was signed at the municipal offices in the presence of the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the councillor for Social Welfare and Quality of Life, María Cruz. Representing ecca.edu were Gorety Almeida, managing director and future general director of the institution, and Melania Leal, regional project coordinator.
This agreement, which extends a long-standing alliance, will allow for the development of an educational and cultural programme in the seniors' associations of the municipality, tailored to the interests of the group. The aim is to provide tools that promote autonomy, stimulate personal development, and help combat unwanted loneliness.
During the signing, the mayor highlighted that initiatives like this represent “an important tool for supporting the emotional well-being of this sector of the population.” He also noted that they allow for “promoting active ageing, improving cognitive skills, and combating unwanted loneliness, which is one of the great present and future threats that concern and condition our seniors.”
For her part, Gorety Almeida emphasised the importance of public-private collaboration to continue driving transformation through education. “We thank you for the trust placed in ecca.edu once again to carry out training aimed at the senior population of La Laguna,” she stated. The managing director stressed that “lifelong learning is an inexhaustible source of well-being and development.”
The programme includes training actions and workshops on digital skills, first aid, healthy habits, equality, citizens' rights, and personal development. These activities are complemented by sessions of active leisure, laughter therapy, and music therapy, aimed at the emotional well-being and coexistence of the participants.
The renewal of the agreement represents a new boost to inclusive training in the municipality. ecca.edu will deliver the workshops under its distance learning system, adapting to the needs of the senior group. The City Council, through the Social Welfare and Quality of Life Department, continues to support this initiative, which seeks to provide accessible training opportunities, social interaction, and personal growth.
The mayor recalled that unwanted loneliness is “one of the great present and future threats” for older people, and emphasised that such programmes contribute to creating a more participatory, healthy, and inclusive society. For its part, ecca.edu expressed its gratitude to the City Council for its ongoing support.
The activities of the Cultural Classroom for Seniors' Centres 2026 will take place in the seniors' associations of La Laguna, with a programme that will be finalised in the coming months. Interested parties can obtain more information through the municipal social services or from ecca.edu itself.
