The City Council of La Laguna, through the Rural Development department, has signed an agreement with the association 'Saberes y Sabores del Nordeste' to promote the Nordeste Market in Tejina with a grant of 30,000 euros.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, has formalised an agreement with the Primary and Artisan Sector Association ‘Saberes y Sabores del Nordeste’ that will inject 30,000 euros into the revitalisation of the Nordeste Market, located in Tejina. The councillor for Rural Development, Cristina Ledesma, was present at the signing of this agreement, which aims to strengthen the direct sale of local products.

Municipal support for the primary sector

The agreement, channelled through the Rural Development department, aims to improve the marketing of products from the primary sector of the Nordeste region. Luis Yeray Gutiérrez highlighted that these initiatives “revitalise the sector's activity and promote greater awareness among the public about the benefits of zero-kilometre products.”

For her part, Cristina Ledesma recalled that the City Council has been supporting this market for years through similar agreements. “This facility not only favours direct sales but also values small and medium producers in the Nordeste region, dignifying their work and strengthening their positioning among the local and visiting population,” she stated.

Revitalisation and promotion plan

The ‘Saberes y sabores del Nordeste’ project includes a community revitalisation plan to consolidate the market as a meeting space. Specific cycles will be programmed focused on promoting food, showcasing artisanal products, and activities related to festivities such as the Hearts of Tejina or San Andrés, featuring chestnuts and wines from family wineries.

Producers will have a prominent role with professional profiles at each stall, detailing the origin farm, history, cultivation methods, and photographs. Additionally, communication on social media will be enhanced with personal stories, cultivation processes, and videopodcasts narrating the journeys of the market professionals.

Local impact and future projection

The association ‘Saberes y Sabores del Nordeste’, formed by around forty producers since 2020, sees this agreement as an opportunity to strengthen its work. The residents of La Laguna and visitors will be able to enjoy a more dynamic market with a greater offer, reinforcing proximity consumption and supporting the local economy.

The next step will be the implementation of the planned actions, which will take place over the coming months. Interested parties can follow updates through the market's and the City Council's social media.
