The State Meteorological Agency forecasts highs of 32 degrees in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for this Friday. The heat will be intense across all of the Canary Islands, with up to 34 degrees in Gran Canaria.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is preparing for a day of intense heat this Friday. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has announced that temperatures will reach 32 degrees in the Tenerife capital, with clear skies and northeast winds. The thermal sensation will be particularly high during the central hours of the day.
Highs by islands and areas
Across the archipelago, the highest temperatures will be recorded in Gran Canaria, where up to 34 degrees are expected in the southeast midlands and in the Tirajana basin. In Tenerife, in addition to the 32 degrees in Santa Cruz, 30 degrees will be reached in the eastern and southern slopes.
La Gomera will also experience a hot day, with 33 degrees expected in San Sebastián de La Gomera. In Fuerteventura, the southeast of the island will register highs between 30 and 32 degrees, while Puerto del Rosario will remain at 29 degrees. Lanzarote, on the other hand, will have temperatures ranging from 22 to 30 degrees in Arrecife.
Warm nights and strong winds
The minimum temperatures will also be high, with values not dropping below 24 to 26 degrees in the most affected areas of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. In the south of Gran Canaria, the minimums could range between 24 and 28 degrees, making the nights particularly warm.
The wind will blow from the northeast, with strong intervals on the southeast and northwest slopes. Locally very strong gusts are expected, especially in Gran Canaria. At sea, the wind will reach force 6 and locally 7 offshore, worsening sea conditions along the west, east, and southeast coasts.
Calima and clouds in the north
Aemet announces generally few clouds or clear skies, although there will be intervals of low clouds in northern areas, especially during the night. There will also be light calima in the high areas of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, which could reduce visibility in some areas.
For residents and visitors in Tenerife, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day, maintain constant hydration, and use sun protection. Authorities remind that extreme heat can particularly affect the elderly and children.
The forecast for the weekend indicates a continuation of high temperatures, although with a slight decrease in some areas. Weather models suggest that heat will continue to be the main feature in the Canary Islands over the coming days.
