The party En Marcha will bring the total annulment of the Baku concession to the extraordinary plenary session of La Oliva due to breaches. Its president, Pedro Amador, denounces a debt of €400,000 in fees and threatens to go to the Prosecutor's Office if there are signs of illegality.
The party En Marcha will elevate a proposal to declare the total annulment of the Baku leisure complex concession at the extraordinary plenary session of the La Oliva City Council this Tuesday. The political formation, led by Pedro Amador, claims that the awarded company has repeatedly breached the contract conditions, including failing to pay the municipal fee for over a decade.
According to the data provided by Amador, the accumulated debt from the fees amounts to approximately €400,000. Additionally, the company did not execute part of the committed facilities, such as a clinic that was never built. The leader believes the City Council should recover all the land and rejects any partial agreement that would allow the concessionaire to continue exploiting part of the complex.
Criticism of local government management
During an interview on the program La Voz de Fuerteventura, on Radio Insular, Amador and councillor Fiamma Guerra made a very critical assessment of the management of the current governing group led by Isaí Blanco. They denounced that the City Council lacks planning and prioritises spending without a defined roadmap.
Guerra emphasised that the lack of control over awarded contracts is reflected in basic services such as street cleaning and garden maintenance. According to the councillor, there are streets in Corralejo that “stink” due to the accumulated dirt in the bins, a problem that, she claims, has been ongoing for months.
Amador also criticised the high number of minor contracts processed by the City Council. He announced that he will request the documentation related to those awards again, as well as the objections raised by the municipal intervention. If he finds signs of illegality after analysing it, he would not rule out going to the Prosecutor's Office. “I will not hesitate”, he stated during the interview.
No alliances ahead of the upcoming elections
When asked about the possible incorporation of En Marcha into the alliance promoted by Municipal Assemblies of Fuerteventura, Nueva Canarias, and Juntos Por Pájara, Amador was hesitant. He asserted that he does not share the management style or the concept of transparency of some of those formations.
The president of En Marcha recalled that they held meetings with Nueva Canarias when Matías Peña was in charge, but he maintains that they were not “serious in fulfilling what was agreed.” He also does not personally know the current island leader, Natalia Santana, nor has he had conversations with the current leadership.
Regarding En Marcha's candidacy, it is still undecided who will head the list. Amador stated that he will remain in the party even if Fiamma Guerra is the candidate: “I will be fine in the front row or in the second row behind” and “I will not abandon the party.”
The extraordinary plenary session this Tuesday will be key to determining the future of Baku. The residents of La Oliva and Corralejo are closely following the debate, as the space could become a future fairground if the concession is fully recovered.
