The association of tourism entrepreneurs recognises the increase in personnel in the National Police, Civil Guard and local police, as well as the collaboration with the Canarian Police.
The Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs of Fuerteventura (Asofuer) has positively evaluated the reinforcement of human and operational resources allocated to public safety on the island, driven by the Insular Directorate of the General State Administration and several municipalities. The employers' association highlights that these measures improve the quality of the destination and the confidence of visitors.
More officers on the streets
In recent months, there have been new additions to the National Police and the Civil Guard, as well as the deployment of trainee officers and the reinforcement of operational units in various locations across Fuerteventura. These actions are complemented by initiatives from several municipalities to expand their local police forces, along with the collaboration of the General Canarian Police in special operations in tourist areas and events with large crowds.
The president of Asofuer, Antonio Hormiga, has stated that “security must be understood as an essential service for both those who live in Fuerteventura and those who choose the island for their holidays.” Hormiga believes that these reinforcements represent an important advancement and demonstrate that collaboration between administrations and police forces allows for a more appropriate response to the real needs of the territory.
Coordination is key for tourism
The tourism employers' association emphasises that the perception of safety directly influences the visitor experience and the external image of Fuerteventura. Therefore, it considers it necessary to continue consolidating the staff, ensuring the stability of the personnel assigned to the island, and providing the police forces with the necessary technical and material resources. The island, with a floating population far exceeding the registered population during peak season, requires continuous planning and coordination.
Asofuer also acknowledges the daily work of the Civil Guard, National Police, Canarian Police and local police, especially in municipalities with the highest tourist concentration, such as La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario and Antigua. In these areas, the increase in population, mobility and the celebration of events demand constant vigilance and prevention.
Commitment to safety
The business association reiterates its commitment to maintaining ongoing collaboration with the Insular Directorate, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the municipalities and the security forces. “We will continue to work jointly and loyally with public administrations, because ensuring the well-being of citizens and those who visit us is a shared responsibility and an indispensable condition for the economic and social development of Fuerteventura,” concludes Antonio Hormiga.
For the tourism sector, safety is a fundamental element of the quality and competitiveness of the destination. The appropriate police presence, prevention and response capacity contribute to building trust among visitors and improving the coexistence of residents. The announced reinforcements represent a step forward, but Asofuer insists that it is necessary to maintain the momentum and continue improving the available resources.
