The insular president of Nueva Canarias has called the media for this Friday, where the alliance with AMF and Juntos x Pájara will be signed, while Fuerteventura Avanza confirms its exit from the agreement.

The political landscape in Fuerteventura is undergoing a new adjustment ahead of the 2027 elections. Nueva Canarias is joining the electoral alliance 'Por Fuerteventura', which has so far been formed by the Municipal Assemblies of Fuerteventura (AMF) and Juntos x Pájara. The signing of the agreement will take place at a press conference scheduled for this Friday on the island, which will be attended by the Secretary General of Nueva Canarias, Luis Campos.

This move comes after weeks of negotiations among the insular political forces. The alliance 'Por Fuerteventura' was created with the intention of bringing together local and insular parties to present a joint candidacy in the upcoming regional and municipal elections. The incorporation of Nueva Canarias, a party with a presence across all the islands, strengthens the project with a regional structure.

The exit of Fuerteventura Avanza

However, the pact does not have the support of all the initial partners. Fuerteventura Avanza announced its exit from the alliance this Friday through a statement. In the text, the party explains that the original agreement between AMF, Juntos x Pájara, and themselves required unanimity for the entry of new parties. In light of the proposal to include Nueva Canarias, the leadership bodies of Fuerteventura Avanza unanimously decided not to support the incorporation, leading to their departure.

The statement sent to the media indicates that the initial goal was to "build a broad and solid project" and that the decision not to support Nueva Canarias was made "after the corresponding debate." The party has not detailed the underlying reasons for its refusal, but internal sources point to programmatic and electoral strategy differences.

The signing event and the absences

The press conference this Friday will feature Luis Campos, Secretary General of Nueva Canarias, and representatives from AMF and Juntos x Pájara. However, Peña Armas, leader of Fuerteventura Avanza, will not be present, as sources from the alliance state that he would be "more outside than inside" the project. His absence confirms the fracture of the initial bloc.

For the electorate in Fuerteventura, this move represents a change in the insular political landscape. Nueva Canarias brings institutional experience and negotiation capacity at the regional level, while AMF and Juntos x Pájara maintain a strong local connection. The exit of Fuerteventura Avanza, on the other hand, opens the door for this party to seek other alliances or run solo in 2027.

For now, the event this Friday will serve to formalize the new alliance and set the course for the upcoming elections. It remains to be seen whether the coalition can establish itself as a real alternative on an island where the PP-PSOE bipartisanship has historically dominated, although with increasing fragmentation in recent years.
