The Civil Guard has arrested a man accused of three burglaries in homes and a fraud on the island. The investigation has clarified over thirty property crimes.

The judicial authority has ordered provisional imprisonment for the man arrested on July 14 by the Civil Guard in Fuerteventura, accused of three crimes of burglary in homes with occupants inside and a minor fraud charge. The investigation, carried out by the Main Post of Corralejo, has clarified over thirty property crimes committed on the island.

Burglaries in holiday homes and hotels

According to the Civil Guard, the arrested man accessed a holiday home by climbing and subsequently entered several rooms in a hotel complex, where he allegedly stole cash and credit cards from various banking entities. The victims filed complaints that initiated the investigation.

The agents managed to identify the suspect thanks to the surveillance footage installed at the crime scenes. The analysis of these videos allowed for a partial reconstruction of the sequence of events and placed the suspect at key points for the investigation.

The inquiries allowed for the identification of the suspect through surveillance footage, the analysis of banking movements, and the recognition made by one of the victims

Evidence leading to the arrest

The investigators also examined the transactions made with a presumably stolen bank card, which reinforced the line of investigation by temporally and spatially linking the suspect to the crimes. Additionally, one of the victims recognised the alleged perpetrator, which, along with other evidence, allowed for the consolidation of the investigation and the subsequent arrest.

The Civil Guard of Corralejo established various surveillance and search operations to locate the responsible party. As a result, in addition to the arrest, the agents managed to clarify over thirty property crimes and recover multiple stolen items.

Imprisonment and next steps

The arrested man was placed at the disposal of the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Puerto del Rosario, which ordered his provisional imprisonment. The investigation remains open to determine if the accused is involved in other criminal acts on the island.

For the residents of Fuerteventura, this arrest represents relief amid the wave of burglaries that had been recorded in recent months. The Civil Guard recommends enhancing security measures in homes and hotel establishments, especially during the high tourist season.

The case continues its judicial course, awaiting the setting of the trial date. Meanwhile, the accused will remain in provisional imprisonment.
