The second edition of the Javi Beirán Academy kicks off in Fuerteventura with the participation of basketball stars such as Víctor Claver and Lolo Calín. The campus, which takes place from July 3 to 8, brings together young people aged 13 to 18 at the Playitas Resort facilities and the Gran Tarajal pavilions.
The second edition of the Javi Beirán Academy has begun in Fuerteventura with the presence of some of the most prominent figures in national and international basketball. The campus, which runs from July 3 to 8, is technically directed by Isidoro "Lolo" Calín, assistant coach of Real Madrid, along with the participation of former NBA player Víctor Claver and world champion Javier Beirán.
The project, promoted by the Sports Department of the Fuerteventura Council and the Tuineje City Council, turns the island into a meeting point for high-level basketball. Training sessions are held at the Gran Tarajal Municipal Pavilion, the IES Vigán Pavilion, and the Playitas Resort facilities, which hosted an institutional meeting to mark the start of the campus.
Basketball figures on the island
Lolo Calín, with a record that includes three Euroleagues, five ACB Leagues, five King’s Cups, and seven Supercups, leads the technical team of the academy. Alongside him, Javier Beirán, world champion with the Spanish national team, and Víctor Claver, with an extensive career in the NBA, ACB, and national team, bring their experience to the young participants.
The president of the Fuerteventura Council, Lola García, highlighted during the institutional event that "it is a source of pride that Fuerteventura once again hosts a sports initiative of this level, which brings together great basketball figures and offers our youth the opportunity to learn from professionals who embody the values of effort, perseverance, and teamwork."
For his part, the Sports Councillor, Luis González, emphasized that the academy "represents a great opportunity for basketball in Fuerteventura, as it brings specialized training closer to our youth and increasingly integrates the clubs and coaches on the island."
A commitment to comprehensive training
The Javi Beirán Academy is established under the Marcha Deportiva brand with the aim of providing comprehensive and high-level training for young players aged 13 to 18. The program combines technical preparation with values such as effort, respect, humility, and camaraderie.
Javier Beirán expressed his satisfaction with the consolidation of the project and stated that "this second edition takes a step further in quality, with a great technical team and the incorporation of Víctor Claver." He also noted that the intention is "to continue growing and for the academy to keep being held in Fuerteventura, enhancing basketball on the island."
Víctor Claver, visiting Fuerteventura for the first time, emphasized that "the most important thing is to see the boys and girls of the academy enjoy and improve, as they have top-level professionals." The former international player expressed that he is "delighted with the island and with sports facilities that are a dream for any athlete."
The mayor of Tuineje, David Herrera, the Tourism Councillor of the Council, Marlene Figueroa, and the Sports Councillor of Tuineje, Dulce García, were also present at the meeting, along with Juana Hernández, commercial director of Playitas Resort.
For the young people of Fuerteventura, this academy represents a unique opportunity to train with basketball figures without leaving the island. The facilities of Playitas Resort, along with the Gran Tarajal and IES Vigán pavilions, allow for the development of a technical program adapted to the demands of high-performance basketball.
The academy will conclude on July 8, leaving a legacy of learning and motivation for the future talents of Majorero basketball.
