The business organization BNI Las Palmas formalized its support for the candidacy of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as European Capital of Culture 2031, adding to the project a network of over 250 local entrepreneurs.

The candidacy of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for European Capital of Culture 2031 has gained a new heavyweight ally: BNI Las Palmas, the business networking network that brings together over 250 entrepreneurs and professionals on the island. The backing was formalized this Thursday with the signing of a manifesto that reinforces the transversal nature of the cultural project.

The business fabric rallies behind the cultural capital

The signing event was attended by the Councillor for Security, Coexistence and Culture, Josué Íñiguez, and the regional director of BNI Las Palmas and BNI Western Andalusia, Carolina Villén. Also present was the artistic director of the LPGC’31 candidacy, José Luis Pérez Pont.

Íñiguez highlighted that the inclusion of BNI reflects the participation of different social and economic sectors in a project that seeks to position culture as a driver of development and external projection. "We want the whole city to get involved," said the councillor.

For her part, Villén emphasized that the candidacy represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the international presence of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and generate new business opportunities linked to culture. "At BNI, we believe in collaboration as a lever for growth," she stated.

A decade of networking in Gran Canaria

BNI Las Palmas celebrates this year its tenth anniversary on the island, with nine active groups and a community of over 250 entrepreneurs. In this decade, the organization has generated more than 230,000 business referrals and facilitated transactions worth over 250 million euros.

This business muscle is now being put to the service of the cultural candidacy, in an alliance that seeks to connect local talent with European projection. The capital, which has already surpassed the first phase of the selection process, is among the four finalists vying for the recognition.

A candidacy that gains institutional and sports support

The adhesion of BNI Las Palmas adds to a long list of entities that have already formalized their support. Among them are the Government of the Canary Islands, the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, and the Gran Canaria Basketball Club.

The LPGC’31 candidacy proposes a model of collaboration between institutions, the cultural sector, the academic field, the economic fabric, and citizens to enhance the image and creative capacities of the city. The goal is for culture to become a strategic axis of development.

For the residents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, this business support represents another step towards achieving a title that would place the city on the European cultural map. The final decision will be known in the coming months, and the Canary capital hopes that the unanimous support of society will be its best calling card.
