The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has awarded the leasing contract to renew the vehicle fleet of the Local Police and Mobility Agents, with an estimated value of €6.8 million.
The Governing Board of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has given the green light to the awarding of the contract for the supply of police vehicles under a leasing arrangement, a further step in modernising the material resources of local security forces. The agreement, with an estimated value of €6.8 million, will have an initial duration of two years, extendable for another two, and will allow for the incorporation of vehicles adapted to the needs of the various operational units.
The Councillor for Security, Josué Íñiguez, explained that the measure responds to the municipal strategy of improving the service capacity of the Local Police and Mobility Agents. “This contract allows us to equip our agents with modern and efficient vehicles, tailored to the demands of each unit,” the councillor stated during the presentation of the agreement.
Ten lots to cover all needs
The file has been structured into ten lots, processed through an open procedure with multiple award criteria. According to the City Council, this system guarantees transparency, free competition, and efficiency in the management of public resources. The awarded companies are ARVAL SERVICE LEASE, S.A.U. and AT CAPITAL, S.L., selected after the technical and economic evaluation of their bids.
ARVAL SERVICE LEASE will handle lots 1, 2, 5, and 10, which include super-light uniformed vans for Road Education and the UFIPOL, camouflaged vans for the UE-GOIA unit and dog transport, 4x4 pick-ups for the UMEC, and a minivan for the Traffic Unit. They will also supply part of lots 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
AT CAPITAL, for its part, has been awarded lot 4, corresponding to hybrid SUV vehicles without a partition for patrol. The company will also provide part of lots 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9, which include hybrid SUVs with a partition, 4x4 off-road vehicles for difficult access areas, and vehicles for the Intervention Unit and Mobility Agents.
A more modern and efficient vehicle fleet
The renewal of the vehicle fleet has been a long-standing demand from police unions, which have been calling for the update of vehicles that, in many cases, were over 15 years old. With this contract, the City Council is advancing in the modernisation of the fleet, incorporating more efficient vehicles tailored to the operational needs of each service.
For the average citizen, this renewal translates into a greater response capacity from the Local Police, with faster and safer vehicles, especially in rapid intervention units and in the municipality's difficult access areas. Mobility Agents will also benefit from the new hybrid SUVs, which will enhance their traffic regulation and urban mobility control tasks.
The leasing contract includes comprehensive maintenance of the vehicles, ensuring their optimal condition throughout the duration of the agreement. The expectation is that the first vehicles will begin to circulate in the coming months, once contracts with the awarded companies are formalised.
