The State Meteorological Agency forecasts clear skies, high-level calima, and strong winds in the southeast and northwest of the Island. Temperatures will reach 30 degrees on the southern coasts of the metropolitan area.
This Saturday, Tenerife will wake up with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, although light calima at high levels will give the atmosphere a hazy tone without being bothersome at ground level. The Aemet warns that the trade winds will blow strongly along the coastal strips of the southeast and the extreme northwest, while breezes will prevail in the west. For residents in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range between 23 degrees minimum and 29 degrees maximum, making for a warm day but with wind.
High-Level Calima and Stability without Rain
The calima will remain in the upper layers of the atmosphere, so no intense episodes are expected at ground level, although it may leave the sky somewhat hazy. In the northern coastal strips, cloudy intervals are expected during the early hours, which will dissipate as the day progresses. The forecast maintains a scenario of stability, with no significant rain expected in Tenerife, with the nuance of high-level calima and wind in the usual acceleration zones of the trade winds. For residents in the northern midlands, morning cloudiness will soften the atmosphere, while in the south, the sun will shine brightly.
Strong Winds in the Southeast and Northwest
Wind will be one of the elements to consider. The trade winds will blow strongly in the coastal strips of the southeast and the extreme northwest of Tenerife, areas where caution is recommended for light vehicle drivers and pedestrians in exposed areas. In the west of the Island, breezes will prevail, a common situation when the trade winds are channelled along the sides of the higher islands. This combination will leave some areas more ventilated and others with a calmer atmosphere, especially in sheltered areas like the interior valleys. At sea, northeast winds of force 4 or 5 are expected, with rough seas increasing to very rough and a northeast swell of between 1 and 2 meters in the coastal waters of Tenerife, La Gomera, and Gran Canaria, which will affect boat crossings and beachgoers in the north.
Up to 30 Degrees in Southern Tenerife
Although a widespread increase in temperatures is not expected, the Aemet does not rule out that local temperatures could reach 30 degrees on the southern coasts of the metropolitan area and in southern Tenerife. It will be a warm day in the most sun-exposed areas, especially in coastal and midland areas facing south. Tourists and residents in municipalities such as Arona, Adeje, or San Miguel de Abona will enjoy a beach day with summer temperatures, albeit with moderate wind. In the north, the presence of cloudy intervals may soften the atmosphere a bit more during the early hours, but by midday, the sun will also prevail in these areas.
For the rest of the Archipelago, the forecast points to light calima at high levels and mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, with intervals in the west of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as in low areas of the northern parts of the other islands. In Gran Canaria, the trade winds will blow moderately with strong intervals in the southeast, and temperatures will hover around 27 degrees in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, the atmosphere will be similar, with morning clouds on the northern coasts and clear skies in the south. Those planning to go hiking or engage in outdoor activities should take into account the wind at the peaks and the calima that will reduce visibility at high altitudes.
