The island of Gran Canaria is preparing for a day of intense heat this Tuesday, with temperatures potentially reaching 34 degrees in the interior of the south and west, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The trade winds will blow strongly in low areas of the southeast and northwest, where occasional very strong gusts are not ruled out, especially towards the end of the day.
Heat in the South and West of Gran Canaria
Maximum temperatures will experience slight increases in the interior of the south and west of the island, where thermometers are expected to reach or exceed 32 to 34 degrees. In the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the forecast maximum is 28 degrees, with minimums of 23.
The sky will be clear, although with cloudy intervals in low areas of the north, more compact in the early and late hours. Additionally, light dust at high levels will reduce visibility across the archipelago.
Strong Winds and Swell
The wind from the north or northeast will blow with force 4 or 5, increasing to 6 and 7 in some areas, generating choppy seas or strong swells. In the southwest and south of the islands, the wind will be variable from force 1 to 3. A northeast swell with waves of 1 to 2 meters is expected, along with regular or poor visibility due to dust.
Residents in coastal areas of the southeast and northwest of Gran Canaria should exercise extreme caution due to the possible very strong wind gusts, which could affect navigation and outdoor activities.
Forecast for the Other Islands
In Lanzarote, temperatures of up to 30 degrees are expected in the southeast, with trade winds blowing strongly in the interior of the southern half. In Fuerteventura, the southern half will reach or exceed 30 degrees, with very strong gusts south of Jandía.
In Tenerife, maximum temperatures will rise slightly in the interior of the south and west, potentially reaching 30 degrees on the southern coasts of the metropolitan area. In La Gomera, the trade winds will be strong on the southeast and west slopes, with very strong gusts at the end of the day. In La Palma, 30 degrees are not ruled out on the west slope, with occasionally strong winds in the southeast and northwest. In El Hierro, temperatures will locally reach 30 degrees in the interior of the south, with strong winds in the southeast and northwest.
Aemet recommends that the public stay hydrated, avoid sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, and pay attention to weather updates due to the possibility of very strong wind gusts.
