The State Meteorological Agency activates a yellow alert for heat in the province, but the Gran Canaria capital is exempt. On Thursday, July 9, it will start very cloudy and temperatures will range between 21 and 25 degrees.

Residents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can breathe easy this Thursday, July 9. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow alert for maximum temperatures in the province, but the capital is not included in the warning. The forecast indicates a day of changing skies and no thermal surprises.

A Thursday of clouds and clear skies in the capital

According to AEMET, the day will begin with very cloudy skies from dawn until 06:00 hours. After that, the cloud cover will decrease, giving way to slightly cloudy skies until 18:00 hours. By the afternoon-evening, clouds will return to cover the sky until the end of the day.

Temperatures will remain stable: the maximum will reach 25 degrees and the minimum will stay at 21. The maximum thermal sensation will be 26 degrees, according to official data. The wind will blow from the north, gentle and steady, without gusts that could cause discomfort.

For those with outdoor plans, the morning will be the best time: the sun will peek through the clouds and the heat will not be oppressive. Early risers will see a cloudy dawn, but improvement will come quickly.

Friday: more of the same, but with fewer clouds

Friday, July 10, will follow the same pattern. AEMET forecasts clouds during the dawn and morning, but cloud cover will decrease from midday. Temperatures will rise a notch: the maximum will reach 26 degrees and the minimum will be 22. The wind, again from the north, will be the main feature of the entire day.

The thermometers will not bring any surprises, but the feeling of mugginess may appear during the central hours of the day, especially in areas without shade. An ideal day for a stroll along the coast or to have a drink on a terrace, though it’s wise to keep a jacket handy for the evening.

Weekend: light rain and pleasant temperatures

Saturday, July 11, will bring cloudy intervals with light rain, according to AEMET. The maximum will stay at 26 degrees and the minimum at 22. Sunday, July 12, will be similar, with cloudy intervals and some light precipitation, and temperatures will drop slightly: between 21 and 25 degrees.

The north wind will remain as gentle breezes. For weekend plans, it’s best not to keep the umbrella too far away: the rain will be scarce, but it can appear at any moment. A typically Canarian weekend, with clouds and clear skies, and without extreme heat.

AEMET reminds that these data are provisional and recommends checking updates. For the resident of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the forecast does not disrupt the routine: no alerts, no extremes, with that variable weather that both pleases some and tests the patience of others.
