The fire, which started yesterday with several ignition points under an electrical line, has been brought under control after a night of coordinated work by firefighters, Civil Protection, and aerial resources. Mop-up and surveillance operations continue.
The forest fire declared in the Cazadores area, in Telde, has been reported as controlled this morning, according to the Insular Coordinating Operations Centre (CECOPIN). The fire, which began on Thursday afternoon, required an intense deployment of ground and aerial resources that worked throughout the night to contain the flames.
The firefighting teams located up to seven ignition points under the path of an electrical line, which were treated independently. The quick detection allowed for the activation of a significant response from the very beginning, which included personnel from the Telde Fire Consortium, Civil Protection, and Local Police, as well as aerial resources from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES). Helicopters carried out water drops over the ignition points to support the firefighting efforts.
As a precautionary measure, the road between Cazadores and La Cumbre, as well as the GC-130, was closed. Residents in the area were allowed to access their homes under safe conditions and accompanied by the Local Police.
The mayor of Telde has thanked the “magnificent and tireless work” of all the security and emergency services that intervened. In his statements, he highlighted the quick and effective actions of the Local Police and Civil Protection of Telde, in coordination with other administrations. “Their professionalism, dedication, and responsiveness have been fundamental in protecting our municipality and our residents,” he noted.
Now, the crews continue on the ground carrying out mop-up, cooling, and perimeter surveillance operations to prevent any re-ignition of the fire, especially given the forecasted windy conditions and high temperatures.
The fire has caused damage to the water distribution network, which will temporarily affect the supply in the areas of Cazadores and La Breña, with approximately 203 subscribers affected. Technical teams are already working on repairs, with an estimated time of four hours to restore the service. Additionally, the collection service for belongings in the Cazadores neighbourhood will be affected due to the closure of the access road.
The Telde City Council has thanked the collaboration and responsibility of the citizens during the emergency and reminds that, although the fire is under control, surveillance operations continue. For any incidents, residents can contact the Local Police at 928 139 060 or call 112.
