Catalan golfer Eduard Rousaud finished in second place at the Fred. Olsen Alps of La Gomera, tied with three other players, four strokes behind Dutch champion Lars Keunen.
Catalan golfer Eduard Rousaud has shown that his game is back. At the Fred. Olsen Alps of La Gomera, held at the Tecina Golf course, the Spaniard secured a shared silver medal after signing off with a final round of 65 strokes (-6) for a total of -13. This result places him four strokes behind the champion, Dutchman Lars Keunen, who dominated the tournament from start to finish.
Rousaud shared the runner-up position with Frenchman Paul Margolis and Italians Mattia Comotti and Marco Florioli. The four finished tied for second place, but the Spaniard was the only one to react after a slump in the final holes.
A championship comeback
The Catalan player started the final day with a chance of victory, but two consecutive bogeys on holes 15 and 16 threatened his aspirations. However, Rousaud demonstrated commendable mental strength. “I am very proud of how I finished. I reacted very well after the bogeys on 15 and 16. On 17 I made a great putt and on 18 I told myself I could do it. In the end, I got my reward,” he explained.
The golfer confessed that the key was in his attitude: “I started more relaxed than I thought and did a very good mental job. I haven't felt like I had the game to compete for tournaments for a while, and now I feel like I do again. The mental side is bringing me back to what I believe I am as a player.”
Keunen, a flawless champion
29-year-old Dutchman Lars Keunen confirmed his leadership with an impeccable round of 65 strokes (-6) for a total of -17. The player managed the pressure of starting as the sole leader and took advantage of the par fives to make birdies. A key shot on hole 15 sealed the tournament and allowed him to play the final holes with ease.
With this victory, Keunen adds €6,900 and 6,525 points to the Alps Tour Order of Merit, climbing to sixth place in the annual ranking. The Dutchman highlighted the support of his partner during the week: “Having my girlfriend here was a huge help. She kept me positive when I started to be too hard on myself.”
The tournament, a showcase for Canarian golf
The Fred. Olsen Alps of La Gomera has established itself as a key event in the Alps Tour calendar, the European development circuit. For Canarian golfers, the tournament represents an opportunity to compete against elite players on a top-level course like Tecina Golf. The next stop will be the Alps of Las Castillas, at Golf de Lerma (Burgos), where players will continue to fight for qualification for the Hulencourt Alps Tour Grand Final.
For the local fan, seeing a player like Rousaud shine in La Gomera is a source of pride. The Catalan, who has gone through difficult times, demonstrates that mental work and perseverance pay off. The Columbian Island thus becomes a springboard for the dreams of golfers looking to make the leap to the HotelPlanner Tour.
