The Cabildo of La Gomera announces traffic restrictions from Monday, July 13, on the CV-14 road in El Rejo (Hermigua) and on the TF-712 accessing the coast of Vallehermoso, due to slope stabilisation and clearing works.

Drivers in La Gomera will need to be patient this Monday. The island's Cabildo has scheduled traffic cuts on two key roads: the CV-14 in El Rejo, in Hermigua, and the TF-712 that provides access to the coast of Vallehermoso. The restrictions are due to emergency works aimed at improving road safety, as reported by the island corporation.

Complete closure on the CV-14 in El Rejo for slope stabilisation

On the CV-14 road, at the height of kilometre point 3+450, traffic will be completely interrupted on Monday, July 13, between 7:00 and 13:00 hours. The reason is the slope stabilisation works on the existing embankment along the road, which include the installation of a triple-twist mesh.

According to the Cabildo, it will be necessary to use large machinery that will occupy the entire roadway, necessitating the absolute closure. The appropriate signage and necessary safety measures have been planned to minimise risks.

Residents of Hermigua and those travelling on that road will need to seek alternative routes during those six hours. The corporation recommends planning trips in advance and avoiding the area during that time.

Clearing and alternative cuts on the TF-712 in Vallehermoso

On the TF-712, which connects to the coast of Vallehermoso, the works will also begin on Monday, July 13, but with a more prolonged nature. The pruning, clearing, and removal of vegetation from the slopes will take place from Monday to Friday, from 7:30 to 18:00 hours, and is expected to last several weeks.

Initially, the works will focus between kilometre points 1+000 and 1+500, with alternative lane closures. In the first phase, work will be carried out on a stretch of about one hundred metres around kilometre 1+000; afterwards, the impact will move to another similar stretch near kilometre 1+200.

Additionally, there may be temporary and punctual closures on the right lane, depending on the needs of the work. Traffic will be regulated by signallers and provisional signage during working hours. Outside of those hours, if necessary, traffic lights will be installed. All of this, explains the Cabildo, is a preliminary step before inspecting the rocky massif and subsequently installing stabilisation systems.

For residents of the coast of Vallehermoso, this will mean daily delays for several weeks. The island institution urges extreme caution, to respect the signage and instructions from the construction personnel, and to plan trips considering the restrictions.

In short, those who need to travel through these areas will need to be patient and, if possible, seek alternatives. The works are necessary to prevent landslides and ensure safety, but traffic jams and detours will be companions on the journey for a while. At least, the scenery of La Gomera is always a comfort while waiting.
