The councillor of IxLG in Vallehermoso, Ramón Hernández, denounces that the Alojera bus stop has been without a shelter for years after being knocked down by a vehicle. The councillors of the party will bring the complaint to the next Cabildo plenary.

The residents of Alojera, in the municipality of Vallehermoso, have been waiting for the bus under the sun or rain for years. The shelter that protected the stop next to the Casa de la Miel de Palma was knocked down by a vehicle and was never replaced. This was reported on Tuesday by Ramón Hernández Bethencourt, councillor of Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) in the Vallehermoso City Council, who describes the situation as “incomprehensible”.

A forgotten stop for years

According to the councillor, the structure was destroyed “several years ago” by a car that went off the road. Since then, public transport users in Alojera have been forced to wait outdoors, without any shelter from the elements. “The residents cannot continue to be the great forgotten ones”, Hernández Bethencourt pointed out, considering the replacement of the shelter a “fair and necessary” demand.

The stop is located in a busy area frequented by both residents and visitors who come to the Casa de la Miel de Palma, a landmark in the neighbourhood. The lack of protection particularly affects elderly people and those who rely on public transport for their daily commutes.

Complaint at the Cabildo plenary

The councillor has announced that IxLG councillors in the Insular Cabildo of La Gomera, Aarón Rodríguez Ramos and Guzmán Correa Marichal, will bring the complaint to the next plenary of the insular corporation. There, they will demand the replacement “as soon as possible” of this and other shelters that remain pending “despite the multiple promises from ASG,” Hernández Bethencourt reported.

The local political group criticises that the Cabildo, responsible for maintaining the bus stops, has not acted all this time. “It is incomprehensible that such a basic infrastructure has been left unreplaced for so many years,” insisted the councillor, who calls for “urgency” to end a situation that has lasted “too long.”

A recurring problem in La Gomera

This is not the first time IxLG has denounced the poor condition of bus stops on the island. In recent months, the party has pointed out other locations where the shelters are broken or have simply disappeared. The one in Alojera is just one example of what they consider a widespread neglect by the Cabildo in maintaining public transport.

The residents of Alojera hope that this time, their complaints will have an effect. In the meantime, they remain exposed to the sun and wind every time they need to catch the bus. The next plenary session of the Cabildo will be the setting where IxLG will once again put this demand on the table, hoping that the shelter will return to its place before the summer ends.
