Ten young people from Tijarafe have managed to place six of the eight finalist stories in the project 'What if We Tell Our Story?', which promotes creative talent and the heritage of La Palma. The final gala will be on July 25 in Santa Cruz de La Palma.
The municipality of Tijarafe has become the main protagonist of the final phase of the project 'What if We Tell Our Story?', an initiative that seeks to foster youth creativity through the cultural heritage of La Palma. No less than six of the eight finalist stories have been created by ten young people from the municipality, which represents recognition of local talent and the work of educational centres in the area.
A Project that Unites Culture and Youth
The initiative, driven by the Youth, Culture and Education departments of the Tijarafe City Council, along with the Youth area of the Insular Council of La Palma and Sodepal, has provided participants with training in narrative structure, character building, and plot development. For months, the young people have created original stories set in various corners of the island, making La Palma the main backdrop for their narratives.
According to sources from the Tijarafe City Council, the massive presence of the municipality in the final "highlights the talent, creativity, and commitment of the youth of the municipality, as well as the importance of promoting initiatives that encourage their active participation." The ten young finalists are Fara Díaz, Lucía Pérez, Deymar Mendoza, Lola Barreto, Matías Hernández, Izan Rodríguez, Nerea Martín, Sophie Gallardo, Aitana Pérez, and Naroa Martín, from CEO Tijarafe and IES Eusebio Barreto Lorenzo.
Final Gala and Production of the Winning Short Film
The final gala will be held on July 25, at 11:30 am, at the Teatro Municipal Cine Chico de Santa Cruz de La Palma. There, a professional jury will evaluate the eight finalist stories and select the winning proposal, which will be adapted and produced as a short film. Admission will be free until capacity is reached, allowing locals and visitors to attend this event that recognises the creative effort of the young people.
Sara Pérez Alonso, project director, has emphasised the importance of the initiative: "I have always believed that the best stories come from people who know and feel the place where they live. That is why this project invites young people to look at La Palma with new eyes and to turn that perspective into film."
For the residents of Tijarafe, this success represents a source of pride and an opportunity for their young talents to shine in the audiovisual field. The City Council has encouraged the community to attend the gala and support the finalists, who represent the creative future of the island.
"What if We Tell Our Story? is much more than a project; it is an opportunity for youth to discover the power of telling stories that speak of their identity, their environment, and their heritage," Pérez Alonso added.
The project will culminate with the filming of the winning short film, which will showcase the heritage of La Palma and the talent of its young creators. Undoubtedly, an initiative that demonstrates that creativity knows no age, and that in Tijarafe, the quarry of future filmmakers is more than assured.
