The General Directorate of Coasts has initiated a 20-day public consultation period for the request from Fish Spa Lanzarote, which aims to organise guided kayak routes along the coast of Arrecife for two years.
The General Directorate of Coasts and Management of the Canary Maritime Space has opened a 20-day public consultation period for interested parties to submit objections to the guided kayak routes project in the bay of Arrecife promoted by the company Fish Spa Lanzarote SL. The initiative, which requests the occupation of the public maritime-terrestrial domain for two years, was published in the corresponding official bulletin and is now available for consultation.
The project contemplates that the kayak routes will start from the company's facilities on Avenida La Marina, next to the Old Park of Arrecife. There, registrations will take place, equipment will be distributed, changing rooms will be used, and a prior explanation will be provided. From that point, participants will walk to the stairs of Ramírez Cerdá Park, where the launching and return of the vessels will take place.
For the transportation of the kayaks, Fish Spa Lanzarote plans to use an electric zero-emission cart, as stated in the technical report submitted. The company proposes the use of double pedal kayaks with a capacity for two adults and a maximum load of 300 kilograms, equipped with mandatory life jackets, watertight compartments, safety lines, and communication equipment for the guides.
The activity will be organised in groups of a maximum of twelve people per monitor, with two daily shifts in the low season: from 9:30 to 11:30 and from 12:30 to 14:30. During the high season, a third afternoon shift will be added, between 17:30 and 19:30. The company notes in the report that this is a modification of the original project called “pedal kayak excursion at Reducto beach,” and that it is still pending authorisation for the Islote de Fermina.
The public consultation period, lasting twenty working days, will allow citizens, associations, and administrations to submit objections, observations, and inquiries regarding the proposal. The resolution was published on the notice board of the General Directorate of Coasts and Management of the Canary Maritime Space, as well as on the transparency portal of the Government of the Canary Islands.
This initiative aims to diversify the tourist offer of Arrecife, betting on sustainable nautical activities with low environmental impact. The use of pedal kayaks and the electric cart for transporting vessels reinforces the commitment to zero-emission mobility. Fish Spa Lanzarote, known for its wellness services, thus expands its offer towards active tourism along the coast of the capital of Lanzarote.
From the Arrecife City Council, municipal sources have indicated that they positively assess any initiative that promotes sustainable tourism and responsible use of the coastline, although they remind that the project must pass all environmental and public domain procedures. The Tourism Department is closely monitoring the file to ensure that the activity is carried out with respect for the environment and the traditional uses of the bay.

The deadline for objections ends twenty days after the publication of the announcement, which took place last Friday. It is recommended that potential affected parties or interested individuals submit their observations in writing, indicating the file number.
This is not the first time that a kayak activity has been proposed in the bay of Arrecife, but it is the first that has a detailed technical report and an explicit commitment to sustainability. The company hopes to obtain authorisation before next summer to start the routes in the high season.
