The Roque del Este Regatta 2026, organised by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife in collaboration with Calero Marinas SL, concluded with a thrilling finish featuring two joint winners. The Avanti Lanzarote, captained by Pablo Padilla, and the Ferrer & García, led by Pedro M. Ferrer, shared the top spot in the corrected time standings after completing the 47 nautical miles of the course.
A day of wind and sea in Lanzarote
The start was given early on Saturday with a north-northeast wind that increased to reach intensities of 7 to 12 knots. The seven vessels headed towards the Roque del Este in magnificent wind and sea conditions, as highlighted by the participants.
After 14:00 hours, the first boats rounded the Roque del Este to port and began their return to Arrecife, where the finish line was located. The Sorondongo IV, of Miguel A. Armas, was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 7 hours, 23 minutes and 24 seconds, followed by the Avanti Lanzarote (07:36:52) and the Ferrer & García (07:42:07).
Final standings: a tie at the top
After applying the corrected times, the Avanti Lanzarote and the Ferrer & García found themselves at the top of the table. The Sorondongo IV took third place, while the Manitu of Pedro J. Rodríguez was fourth, the Flounder III of Patricio Aldecoa fifth, and the Altamar I of Francisco Curbelo sixth.
For sailing enthusiasts in Lanzarote, this regatta is a classic event on the calendar. The organisation highlighted the sportsmanship and level of the fleet, which competed in an atmosphere of healthy rivalry.
An unexpected rescue: turtle freed
The day not only featured competition but also a charitable act. The vessel Lucero II, from the Club Deportivo Nachosails, spotted a turtle entangled in fishing line and plastic bags. Its crew did not hesitate to rescue it and free it from all the entanglements, although this meant their withdrawal from the race.
The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife always advocates for environmental care in its competitions, and this gesture exemplifies that. The turtle was able to return to the sea safe and sound, while the Lucero II was left unclassified but received applause from all.
For the residents of Arrecife and sailing lovers, the Roque del Este Regatta remains an event that combines sport and ecological awareness. The next event will be in 2027, and even greater participation is already anticipated.
