The Casa de la Cultura ‘Carlos Alonso’ in La Esperanza has been hosting the exhibition ‘Craftsmanship of La Gomera: Tradition and Identity’ since yesterday, which will be open until August 15.

The exhibition ‘Craftsmanship of La Gomera: Tradition and Identity’ opened its doors yesterday at the Casa de la Cultura ‘Carlos Alonso’ in La Esperanza, in the municipality of El Rosario. The showcase, which will remain open until August 15, brings together pieces of ceramics, basketry, jewellery, textiles, and wood from the Colombian island.

The mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, highlighted during the inauguration that this initiative strengthens cultural ties between islands. “It is a pride to host this exhibition that values the craftsmanship of the artisans from La Gomera,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Sports and Youth of the Cabildo of La Gomera, Guillermo Medina, emphasised that craftsmanship is a pillar of island identity. “Each piece tells a story of tradition and effort,” he affirmed.

A Look at Traditional Trades

The exhibition offers a journey through the main artisanal trades of La Gomera. Among the most striking pieces are ceramic works using ancestral techniques and palm basketry, typical of the island.

Visitors can also admire traditional jewellery, hand-embroidered textiles, and wood carvings that reflect the ethnographic richness of the Canary Islands. Attendees can observe the process of creating some pieces through explanatory panels.

The Councillor for Festivities of El Rosario, Yeray Gutiérrez, explained that the exhibition anticipates La Gomera's leading role in the La Esperanza 2026 festivities. “We want locals to experience first-hand the artisanal tradition that represents us,” he said.

A Cultural Bridge Between Islands

The exhibition not only showcases objects but also aims to strengthen cultural ties between Tenerife and La Gomera. For attendees, it is a unique opportunity to discover the artisanal diversity of an island that often goes unnoticed.

Residents of El Rosario and tourists who attended the inauguration positively valued the initiative. “It is a way to bring our traditions closer to those who visit us,” commented a local resident.

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00 hours. Admission is free and is recommended for all audiences, especially families and lovers of popular culture.

With this exhibition, El Rosario becomes a showcase for La Gomera's craftsmanship, a nod to the Canarian roots that invites reflection on the importance of preserving heritage. Those who visit before August 15 will be able to take a piece of La Gomera's identity home without leaving Tenerife.
