The brands Pedro Palmas, Mommy Love, Macaronesia and Elena Morales, from Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, are participating this week in MOMAD, the international fashion fair taking place at IFEMA Madrid from July 23 to 25.
Canarian swimwear is making a strong debut in Madrid. Four brands from the archipelago are participating from this Wednesday until Friday in MOMAD, the international fair for fashion, footwear and accessories held at IFEMA Madrid. These are Pedro Palmas, Mommy Love, Macaronesia and Elena Morales, brands from Gran Canaria and Lanzarote showcasing their collections to national and international buyers and professionals.
The Canarian presence at the event is part of the 'Canarias Islas de moda' brand, promoted by Proexca, and is supported by the island programs Gran Canaria Moda Cálida and Lanzarote Moda, which are managed by the respective councils. The brands already walked the runway yesterday and will repeat today in another show for professional audiences.
The Minister of Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Handicrafts of the Gran Canaria Council, Minerva Alonso, highlighted that the Gran Canarian presence at MOMAD represents "a new opportunity to continue boosting the international projection of companies and to showcase the talent and creativity of fashion made on the island." Alonso added that "we continue to support our brands in their growth and in seeking new commercial opportunities, as part of the external promotion actions developed alongside Proexca under the Canarias Islas de Moda brand."
Furthermore, Alonso emphasized that for the first time, an immersive experience of Gran Canaria Swim Week is being presented, "an innovative initiative that will allow visitors to experience the runway and everything happening around it as if they were there." This action, developed in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, aims to bring the island's main fashion event closer to professional audiences and strengthen Gran Canaria's international positioning as a reference in swimwear.
On her part, the Minister of Industry of the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Council, Aroa Revelo, valued that the presence of the Macaronesia brand at MOMAD "demonstrates the great moment that Lanzarote fashion is experiencing." Revelo pointed out that "we have brands that stand out for their creativity, quality and a unique identity that makes them different and competitive." The minister insisted that "from the Lanzarote Council, we will continue to support our designers in their growth, opening doors for them in the main national and international showcases so they can turn their talent into new business opportunities. Fashion is an industry, it generates jobs and projects the image of Lanzarote to the world."
Proexca coordinates, along with the councils, the 'Canarias Islas de Moda' brand with the aim of gaining more visibility and strength abroad. This strategic plan focuses on five axes: training, foreign marketing, positioning, sustainability and logistics. The goal is to increase the specific weight of textiles in the Canarian GDP to diversify the island's economy, promoting companies to international fairs and showrooms.
Participation in MOMAD reinforces Proexca's commitment to the internationalization of Canarian fashion, giving visibility to the brands of the archipelago in one of the main commercial showcases of the sector in Spain. The Canary Islands are undergoing a transformation, betting on internationalization, sustainability (slow fashion) and the coordinated support of regional and island institutions.
For the Canarian public, this presence represents a window to the world for local fashion, which seeks to consolidate itself in external markets and generate new business opportunities that benefit the islands' economy. The participating brands hope to establish commercial contacts that will allow them to grow beyond the archipelago's borders.
