The shipping company increases frequencies between Los Cristianos, San Sebastián de La Gomera and La Palma from July 1, with the new trimaran Pepita Castellví and the fast ferry Volcán de Tirajana.
Baleària Canarias has launched a summer schedule that enhances connectivity between the western islands of the archipelago. Since July 1, the company offers four daily connections between the port of Los Cristianos in Tenerife and San Sebastián de La Gomera, as well as two daily services to La Palma. Additionally, passengers can travel between La Gomera and La Palma with a stop at the Tenerife port.
This operation, which covers both passenger and vehicle and cargo transport, is carried out with two high-speed vessels: the trimaran Pepita Castellví and the fast ferry Volcán de Tirajana. Both are part of the fleet that the shipping company allocates to inter-island routes, aiming to provide more agile travel and greater scheduling flexibility.
The president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, highlighted the company's long-term commitment to the Canary Islands. “Our commitment to the Canary Islands is long-term; we have come to consolidate a stable project that combines a competitive offer, quality service, and a constant listening to the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors. This increase in frequencies is precisely in response to that desire to continue improving connectivity between the western islands,” Utor stated.
Utor also emphasized that this growth is part of Baleària's model, based on innovation, sustainability, and excellence in service. “We want to continue adding value to Canary maritime transport with an increasingly efficient fleet, a strong commitment to decarbonization, and a customer-focused approach,” he added. According to the president, the goal is to offer fast, reliable, and sustainable connections that contribute to the economic and social development of the archipelago.
The Pepita Castellví, measuring 102 meters in length and capable of reaching speeds of 35 knots, has recently undergone a comprehensive renovation. With a capacity for 870 passengers and 250 vehicles, the ship features reclining seats with USB connections, satellite internet via the Starlink system, two Exclusive category lounges, two dining areas, a children's area, a shop, and pet services. The name of the trimaran pays tribute to Pepita Castellví, a Spanish oceanographer who participated in the first national scientific expedition to Antarctica.
Meanwhile, the Volcán de Tirajana has a capacity for 900 passengers and 287 vehicles, and includes a bar-cafeteria, onboard shop, and a children's play area. Both vessels operate on the routes connecting the western islands, complementing the company's offerings.
Baleària Canarias, established after the acquisition of Armas Trasmediterránea's assets by the Baleària group, operates in the archipelago with a fleet of 12 vessels dedicated to inter-island routes and connections with the port of Cádiz. The company has a strategic investment plan of 45 million euros over three years, aimed at modernizing, digitizing, and improving the environmental performance of the operational fleet in the islands.
On weekends, departures are maintained but with schedules adapted to passenger needs. Additionally, Baleària Canarias offers a free bus service between the port of Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, thus facilitating access for travelers coming from the Tenerife capital.
With this summer schedule, the shipping company aims to respond to the demand from residents and tourists, improving mobility between the western islands and contributing to the region's economic activity.
