From July 1, Baleària Canarias offers two direct daily connections between Santa Cruz de La Palma and Los Cristianos, and two more with San Sebastián de La Gomera via Tenerife. This measure improves the mobility of passengers and goods.
Baleària Canarias has launched an expansion of its maritime services connecting La Palma with Tenerife and La Gomera since July 1. The company now offers two daily round trips between the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma and that of Los Cristianos, as well as two connections with San Sebastián de La Gomera, stopping at Los Cristianos.
The shipping company has designed this frequency expansion to optimise mobility for both passengers and goods. According to the company, weekend schedules have been specifically adapted to meet the needs of local residents.
Schedules from Monday to Saturday
From Monday to Saturday, departures from Santa Cruz de La Palma to Los Cristianos are at 6:15 with the Pepita Castellví and at 16:30 with the Volcán de Tirajana. Both ferries then continue to San Sebastián de La Gomera, departing from Los Cristianos at 9:15 and 19:30 respectively.
In the opposite direction, from Los Cristianos to La Palma, departures are at 8:00 with the Volcán de Tirajana and at 18:30 with the Pepita Castellví, which will overnight daily on the island of La Palma. The duration of each crossing is just over two hours, a reasonable time for a coffee with views of the Atlantic.
Sunday service with the trimaran Pepita Castellví
On Sundays, the service is fully operated by the trimaran Pepita Castellví. Departures from Santa Cruz de La Palma are at 10:00 and 16:30, while from Los Cristianos they depart at 13:30 and 20:00.
This vessel, measuring 102 meters in length and capable of sailing at 35 knots, has been completely refurbished. Its name pays tribute to the first Spanish oceanographer to participate in a scientific expedition to Antarctica. With a capacity for 870 passengers and 250 vehicles, it offers fully reclining ergonomic leather seats in Keyton class, USB connections, high-speed internet via Starlink satellite, two Exclusive lounges with personalised service, two café-bars, a children's area, a gift shop, and pet-friendly services.
The fast ferry Volcán de Tirajana complements the offer with a capacity for 900 people and 287 vehicles, equipped with a café-bar, onboard shop, and children's area. For Canary Island residents, who already enjoy discounts on transport, this expansion provides a relief in inter-island connections, which can sometimes be as scarce as a Guanche on a trendy beach.
With this measure, Baleària strengthens its presence in the archipelago and improves the connectivity of La Palma, an island that has seen its transport demand grow following the volcanic eruption of 2021. Residents of Santa Cruz de La Palma can now plan their trips to Tenerife or La Gomera with more schedule options, without having to wake up as early as a farmer during harvest time.
