Dulce Caña de La Habana and the Cultural Group Nijota took home the top prizes at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Habaneras Festival, which featured 22 groups.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Habaneras Festival 2026 now has its winners. Dulce Caña de La Habana, in the free groups category, and the Cultural Group Nijota, in the seniors category, won the highest awards at an event that filled the Plaza de La Concepción with music for three days.
More than twenty groups in competition
From last Thursday until yesterday, a total of 22 groups performed on the stage set up in the heart of the Tenerife capital. The festival, part of the Fiestas del Carmen, brought together free formations, senior groups, and lyrical ensembles.
The jury, composed of Elisa Sonia Albertos Cedrés, Samuel Fumero, and Daura Rodríguez Perera, had the difficult task of choosing from such quality. The second prizes went to Habana Vieja (free groups) and the Folkloric Group Jariguo (seniors).
Solo voices and unpublished song
The solo voices category also highlighted some notable names. Carlos Arbelo from the Valvanera group won in the free category, while Francisco Javier González from Habana Vieja did the same among the senior groups. Additionally, the Best Unpublished Song award went to “Siempre Madre,” also by Habana Vieja.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, and the councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, attended the various sessions. Caraballero was responsible for presenting the awards at the final evening of the competition, which has been organised by the City Council since 1993.
The Carmen procession next Thursday
The events in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors, do not end here. Next Thursday, July 16, the traditional procession and subsequent embarkation of the image at the Santa Cruz dock will take place. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy one of the most emotional moments of the festivities.
