The Casa del Maestro in Tiscamanita will host the presentation of the book 'Canarian Identity from Fuerteventura' this Thursday, July 9, at 19:30, with José Miguel Perera as speaker.

Next Thursday, July 9, at 19:30, the Casa del Maestro in Tiscamanita (Manuel Velázquez Street, 6) will be the venue for a new presentation of the book Psychology of the Canarian Man, by Manuel Alemán Álamo (1931-1991). Under the title Canarian Identity from Fuerteventura, the event aims to revisit the central ideas of this work and promote dialogue about Canarian identity, especially from the perspective of Fuerteventura.

An Encounter with José Miguel Perera

The poet, researcher, and educator José Miguel Perera will lead the discussion. Perera, coordinator of the digital magazine BienMeSabe.org, has studied Alemán Álamo's work in depth. He will be joined by Felipe Bermúdez Suárez, a theologian and friend of the author, who will present the event organized by the Manuel Velázquez Cabrera Foundation.

The event is designed as an open and accessible exchange for all audiences, with no prior knowledge required. Attendees will be able to participate in the debate and ask questions about Canarian identity.

Manuel Alemán Álamo, a Key Thinker

Manuel Alemán Álamo was a significant figure in Canarian society in the 20th century. A social educator, psychotherapist, and rector of the Diocesan Seminary of Las Palmas in the sixties, he trained a generation of priests who applied the Second Vatican Council in the Islands. Additionally, he wrote about Carl Rogers and Paulo Freire, on whom he wrote one of his doctoral theses.

His book Psychology of the Canarian Man, published over four decades ago, remains a reference for understanding the social, political, and cultural reality of the Archipelago. The presentation in Tiscamanita will allow for a rediscovery of his ideas and their application to the current context.

An Appointment for Collective Reflection

The activity not only seeks to remember Alemán's work but also to generate a lively dialogue about Canarian identity from Fuerteventura. The organizers hope it will be a starting point for future debates in other locations on the island.

For the residents of Tiscamanita and surrounding areas, this event represents a unique opportunity to engage with a key Canarian thinker. Admission is free, and it is recommended to arrive early to secure a place.

The meeting will conclude with a question-and-answer session and the possibility of purchasing copies of the book. Undoubtedly, an evening that promises to stimulate the mind and connect with the cultural roots of the Canary Islands.
