Maxorata Spar Padilla has triumphed over Tao Cicar Orly Club (12-9) in the final of the Santiago Ojeda tournament, held this Saturday at the Pedro Sánchez arena in Tarajalejo.
The Pedro Sánchez arena in Tarajalejo, Fuerteventura, was the setting for the grand final of the Santiago Ojeda tournament for youth teams in Canarian wrestling. Maxorata Spar Padilla claimed the title of champion of the Canary Islands by defeating Tao Cicar Orly Club with a clear score of 12 to 9.
The Majorero wrestlers dominated the match from start to finish, always maintaining the lead on the scoreboard. Despite the good preparation and mindset of the Lanzarote team, the strength of Maxorata was decisive in securing the victory.
With this triumph, the Fuerteventura team adds its second title in this competition, while Tao Cicar Orly Club continues with one title in its trophy cabinet. The final was a complete sell-out at the arena, which has been a common occurrence this season in the two eastern islands of the Archipelago.
The refereeing by Samuel Cabrera was correct and allowed for a smooth development of the wrestling. Among the standout performers for Maxorata, Tasarte Rodríguez was key in eliminating Romen Marrero, Eliser Martín, and Oriol Páez, remaining undefeated in the end. Meanwhile, Tomás Cabrera threw Echedey Acuña and Samuel Cabrera, who, after a closely contested match, took down José Andrés Hernández in the sand.
The event was attended by authorities from both islands. From Lanzarote, councillors from Teguise such as Myriam Jorge Camejo and Javier Díaz were present, along with the Social Welfare Councillor of the Cabildo and former mayor of Haría, Marci Acuña, who accompanied the Lanzarote team.
The grassroots season concludes with a great spectacle and response from fans, recovering the competition and atmosphere that had been absent for some time. The youth of Canarian wrestling demonstrates its vitality with events like this.
On another note, next Tuesday, July 28, a historic event for island sports will take place. The Tinajo Elecmor wrestling club will present itself as the first inclusive club in Lanzarote. The presentation will be at ten in the morning in the plenary hall of the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote.
All presidents of wrestling clubs on the island, as well as representatives from the Insular Federation, are invited to the event. Members of the Cabildo and sports councillors from various municipalities will also attend. This initiative is expected to mark a turning point in Canarian wrestling, promoting inclusion in sports.
