Outdoor cinema has returned to the neighbourhoods of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The municipal programme 'Vamos de cine' celebrates its second edition following last year's success and has expanded its screenings to a dozen more neighbourhoods, including San José, Lomo Los Frailes, Tafira Baja, Jinámar, and Lomo Apolinario. Until August 8, residents can enjoy 22 feature films, a selection of animated shorts for children, and works by Canary Island filmmakers, establishing itself as one of the main cultural proposals of the summer in the capital.
The screenings began on July 10 and have been scheduled in parks and squares across the city's five districts. Each session features a large cinema screen, and attendees can also enjoy free popcorn at a stand set up next to the screening area. The initiative aims to bring cinema closer to residents and promote community interaction in public spaces.
This Saturday, the Estadio Insular park hosted the screening of 'My Neighbor Totoro', the classic from Studio Ghibli directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The film, considered an essential work of Japanese animation, tells the story of sisters Satsuki and Mei, who move to the countryside and befriend a forest spirit. Under a light drizzle, the film captivated both young and old, who attentively followed the protagonists' adventures.
