The Valleseco Town Council is implementing new sanitation infrastructure in Lanzarote, with an investment of nearly 40,000 euros. The project will benefit around 30 homes in the areas of El Álamo and Lomito.
The Lanzarote area, in the Gran Canaria municipality of Valleseco, will see improvements to its sanitation network thanks to a project that the Town Council has just launched. The investment, which amounts to 40,000 euros, will connect around 30 homes in this rural area to the municipal network.
Works in El Álamo and Lomito
The Public Works Department is coordinating the work, which includes the execution of several sections of sanitation in the areas of El Álamo and Lomito. Additionally, a small construction project will be carried out to channel rainwater on Camino de La Laguna.
These works will not only service the current homes but will also leave the infrastructure ready for future connections. This will facilitate the incorporation of new properties into the municipal system and will organise residential development in this rural area.
Shared funding between administrations
The project is funded through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) 2023-2027, with funds from the Government of the Canary Islands channelled by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. The Valleseco Town Council covers 50% of the total cost.
The mayor, José Luis Rodríguez Quintana, highlighted the importance of institutional cooperation to execute projects in rural municipalities. "Thanks to the funding from the FDCAN and the efforts of the Town Council, we can continue to address the historical demands of our citizens," he stated.
“We continue to work so that residents have modern and adequate infrastructure, regardless of whether they live in the urban centre or in the dispersed areas of the municipality. Improving the sanitation network is a necessary investment that directly impacts the quality of life for families.”
More investments in rural neighbourhoods
The governing group is carrying out various actions in neighbourhoods of the municipality related to water supply, sanitation, accessibility, and improvement of public spaces. The mayor emphasised that cooperation between administrations is key for municipalities like Valleseco.
For the residents of Lanzarote, this project represents a significant advancement. Until now, many homes lacked connection to the municipal sanitation network, which forced individual systems. With this investment, a basic service is guaranteed that improves the quality of life and health in the area.
Work has already begun and is expected to be completed in the coming months. The Town Council has indicated that residents will be informed about possible interruptions or diversions during the execution of the works.
