The Cabildo of La Gomera has closed a section of the CV-3 in Hermigua from this Thursday due to the risk of landslides. The measure, which will last about three months, affects between kilometres 0+632 and 1+100.
Residents of Hermigua will need to seek alternative routes from this Thursday, July 9. The Cabildo of La Gomera has announced the total closure of a section of the CV-3, on the right bank of the Hermigua ravine, due to emergency works caused by the damage from storm Therese, which struck the island last March.
The interruption affects the section between kilometre points 0+632 and 1+100, and will last approximately three months, according to the island institution. The decision has been made for safety reasons, due to the risk of landslides from the instability of slopes and excavations in the area.
Access guaranteed to the cemetery and emergencies
The closure has been agreed upon with the Hermigua Town Hall, and access to the municipal cemetery and other affected entrances has been ensured. Access for emergency vehicles, such as ambulances and fire trucks, is also guaranteed if necessary.
The Cabildo requests that citizens exercise extreme caution in the vicinity of the work area and pay attention at all times to the provisional signage set up during the execution of the works. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to avoid delays.
Emergency works following storm Therese
The works respond to the consequences of storm Therese, which caused significant damage to road infrastructures in La Gomera. The CV-3, a key route for communication in the municipality of Hermigua, was particularly affected, with landslides and damage to the pavement requiring urgent intervention.
The works will focus on stabilising slopes and repairing the pavement, aiming to restore road safety within three months. The Cabildo has reminded that these works are necessary to prevent accidents and ensure mobility in the area in the medium term.
For residents of Hermigua, the closure will mean a change in their daily routines, especially for those who use the CV-3 to access the town centre or their homes. Local authorities have asked for understanding and patience, as the measure aims to prevent greater risks.
The Cabildo of La Gomera has emphasised that this is a priority action, and that efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience to residents. While the works last, signposted diversions will be established, although specific alternative routes have not been detailed.
