The island hosted two journalists from regional newspapers in northwestern Germany from June 25 to 29. The initiative, organised by Turismo de La Gomera and the Hotel Bancal & Spa, aims to strengthen the German market, one of the main sources of visitors.

Two German journalists have explored La Gomera over five days to gain an in-depth understanding of the island's tourist offerings. The visit, promoted by the island's Cabildo in collaboration with the Hotel Bancal & Spa, is part of a strategy to consolidate the German market, considered a priority due to its volume of travellers and its profile aligned with nature tourism.

An immersion in the island's natural and cultural offerings

The journalists Christian and Petra Koslowski, linked to the ‘Neue Westfälische’ and ‘Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung’ media outlets, arrived on the island between June 25 and 29. During their stay, they visited the towns in the north and south, the Garajonay National Park, local cuisine, and active tourism activities. The programme also included visits to quality accommodations, aiming to showcase the diversity of the destination.

The island's Councillor for Tourism, Trade and Consumption, María Isabel Méndez, highlighted that “these types of actions help project La Gomera in markets of special relevance to the island.” Méndez emphasised that “Germany continues to be a strategic market for La Gomera, due to the interest of its visitors in destinations linked to nature, sustainability, hiking, tranquillity, and authenticity.”

Dissemination in German regional media

The articles published by the journalists will be disseminated both in print and on the digital platforms of their respective newspapers. ‘Neue Westfälische’ and ‘Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung’ are publications with local, national, and international coverage, which will allow them to reach a wide audience in northwestern Germany. The councillor insisted that “the direct experience of specialised journalists favours a closer, more rigorous promotion aligned with the island's identity.”

This initiative is part of the Tourism Sustainability Strategy 2030 of the Cabildo, which seeks to improve the positioning of the ‘Naturally Magical’ brand in the main source markets. For German visitors, La Gomera offers a profile of a tranquil, authentic, and environmentally friendly destination, values that are increasingly important in travel choices.

A key market for Gomera tourism

Germany is one of the main source markets for tourists to La Gomera, alongside national and British visitors. The profile of the German traveller typically seeks rural accommodations, hiking routes, and local gastronomic experiences. Indeed, the island's offerings align with this demand: over 600 kilometres of marked trails, a biosphere reserve, and a cuisine based on seafood and local produce.

Councillor Méndez reminded that “La Gomera, under the ‘Naturally Magical’ brand, continues to advance in consolidating its own positioning within the European market, based on land preservation, quality of experience, and respect for local identity.”

For tourists who already know the island, this new promotional action reinforces the idea that La Gomera is not just a sun and beach destination, but a place where nature and culture intertwine. Those who have yet to visit may be encouraged after reading the report by the German journalists in their leading newspapers. The medium-term strategy aims for this interest to translate into bookings and a greater presence in German travel agencies.

The next step will be to measure the media impact of the visit and schedule similar actions with other source markets. In the meantime, the island continues to work to ensure that the German traveller —and those from any other country— find in La Gomera that magical corner promised by the brand.
