The technical office of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031 is holding an information session in San Sebastián de La Gomera on July 14 to present the second Open Call of its project 'Rebellion of Geography'.
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031, known as LPGC'31, will land in La Gomera next Tuesday, July 14. The meeting, open to the public, will take place at 19:30 at Dād. Unidad La Gomera, the former Choreographic Centre of San Sebastián de La Gomera, located at Avenida de Colón, 8.
The information session is aimed at artists, cultural managers, associations, collectives, businesses in the sector, and institutions. Anyone interested in learning about the project and exploring participation opportunities in an initiative that aims to place the Canary Islands at the centre of the European cultural debate is also invited.
An Inter-Island Tour to Build a Shared Candidacy
The visit to La Gomera is part of a tour that the technical office of LPGC'31 is conducting throughout the archipelago. The objective is to bring the project closer to the different island territories and gather contributions from the Canary cultural ecosystem.
The tour began on June 19 at the Civic Centre of Arrecife, Lanzarote. It continued on July 3 at the Casa Condal of Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma, and another session was held on July 8 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. At that meeting, about twenty artists and professionals from various disciplines shared experiences and discussed the common challenges of culture in the islands.
With this tour, the candidacy reaffirms its intention to build a project that transcends the municipal boundaries of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and turns the European Capital of Culture into a shared opportunity for the entire archipelago. For the residents of La Gomera, this session represents a unique opportunity to influence the design of a candidacy that, if successful, will have a direct impact on the cultural programming and tourism development of the island.
Second Open Call of 'Rebellion of Geography'
During the session on July 14, the main conceptual axes of 'Rebellion of Geography', the slogan of the candidacy, will be presented. The process of preparing the final Bid Book that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will present to the European jury will also be explained. Above all, details of the second Open Call will be revealed, designed to incorporate new projects, initiatives, and alliances into the development of the candidacy.
The call is open to artists, cultural managers, mediators, curators, cultural businesses, associations, foundations, collectives, public institutions, and projects related to culture, education, innovation, science, sustainability, well-being, or social cohesion. The proposals received will contribute to the cultural programming planned between 2026 and 2031 as well as to the legacy of the candidacy.
Interested parties can consult all the information and submit their proposals through the form available at www.lpgc2031.com or at www.rebeliondelageografia.com. The event in La Gomera, with free entry, promises to be a hotbed of ideas and projects. Who knows, perhaps the next great cultural proposal that puts the Canary Islands on the European map will emerge from there.
