The technical office of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031 is holding an information session on July 14 in San Sebastián de La Gomera to present the second Open Call for the 'Geography Rebellion' project.

The candidacy of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for European Capital of Culture 2031 continues its tour of the islands to weave an archipelagic cultural network. Next Tuesday, July 14, at 19:30, the project's technical office will land in San Sebastián de La Gomera to present the second Open Call of 'Geography Rebellion'. The meeting will take place at Dād. Unidad La Gomera, the former Choreographic Centre located at Avenida de Colón, 8.

Entry is free until capacity is reached, and the call is aimed at artists, cultural managers, associations, companies, and institutions from the island. The goal is to incorporate new voices and projects into a candidacy that aims to place the Canary Islands at the epicentre of European culture.

A tour that adds islands to the project

The session in La Gomera is part of a tour that has already passed through Lanzarote, La Palma, and Tenerife. On July 8, around twenty artists and professionals participated in a meeting at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the shared challenges of the Canary cultural sector were discussed.

With this tour, the LPGC’31 candidacy reaffirms its commitment to building a project that transcends municipal boundaries and turns the European Capital of Culture into an opportunity for the entire archipelago. For a resident of La Gomera, this means that their cultural proposal can gain international visibility and become part of the candidacy's legacy.

Open Call open until further notice

The second Open Call of 'Geography Rebellion' seeks to incorporate projects related to culture, education, innovation, science, sustainability, well-being, or social cohesion. The proposals received will contribute to the cultural programming planned between 2026 and 2031 as well as to the legacy of the candidacy.

Interested parties can submit their ideas through the form available at www.lpgc2031.com or at www.rebeliondelageografia.com. The candidacy aims to strengthen cultural rights, citizen participation, and international cooperation from an insular perspective.

The event in La Gomera is on Tuesday, July 14 at 19:30 at Dād. Unidad La Gomera. Entry is free, so there’s no excuse not to come and learn how to be part of this project that, who knows, could make the Canary Islands the centre of European culture in 2031.
