PSOE denounces 141 'ghost' protected homes from Visocan in La Gomera that have not been delivered

The socialist group in the Cabildo of La Gomera claims that most of the protected housing projects on the island exist only on paper. Of the 141 announced, none have been delivered despite the promised deadlines.

The PSOE island group in the Cabildo of La Gomera has denounced that the park of protected homes promoted by Visocan on the island is practically "ghost". According to the socialists, none of the 141 homes repeatedly announced since 2022 have been delivered as of today, July 2026.

The data, extracted from Visocan's own website and the Cabildo, shows a constant gap between announcements and actual execution. "It is evident that the announcements exceed real construction, they are the same homes announced a thousand times," sources from the PSOE point out.

Unfulfilled promises in Vallehermoso and San Sebastián

In March 2025, the Cabildo promised the delivery of the first 6 homes in Vallehermoso within three months, and another 30 in San Sebastián before the end of that year. However, by July 2026, none of those homes have been delivered.

The most optimistic official estimates now point to the last quarter of 2026, starting only with a small promotion of 8 homes on La Pista street (San Sebastián), whose rehabilitation has cost 2.7 million euros. The promises in Vallehermoso and the blocks at the Parador continue to accumulate technical delays.

“The citizens are tired of announcements, enough with remembering the dates,” criticise the socialists, who recall that since June 2022 there have been up to five different announcements of protected housing plans.

Projects on paper across the island

The overall plan for protected homes, backed by a multi-million euro agreement with Visocan, includes 141 homes distributed across all municipalities on the island. But the vast majority are still in bureaucratic processing.

In San Sebastián de La Gomera, there are four projects on newly purchased flat land and three interventions in abandoned private structures. In Alajeró, a plot was acquired where no earth has yet been moved. In Hermigua, Vallehermoso, Agulo, and Valle Gran Rey, Visocan is still in the process of acquiring plots and three skeletons of unfinished private works.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, has publicly admitted that the reality of the works forced them to “adjust the final objectives” due to technical difficulties. In May 2026, the construction of 36 homes in Tecina (Alajeró) was tendered for 7 million euros, but the socialists point out that it is technically impossible for them to be delivered within the expected deadlines.

A history of repeated announcements

The PSOE has provided a chronological review of the unfulfilled promises. In June 2022, a study was announced to create up to 70 protected homes. In November 2023, the forecast of 68 new homes was communicated. In March 2025, the delivery of 142 homes in 20 months was assured. In January 2026, the figure was raised to 149 with an investment of 22.8 million. And in July 2026, the Cabildo confirmed progress for 141 homes.

“If we go by the times they have been announced, they are already at almost 600 homes built, nothing could be further from reality,” the socialists ironise. Meanwhile, housing applicants in La Gomera continue to wait.

The next key date will be the last quarter of 2026, when the delivery of the first 8 homes on La Pista street is expected. If this does not happen, the gap between announcements and reality will continue to grow.
