The Cabildo of La Gomera has received over fifty applications for aid to purchase electric vehicles and charging points, an initiative funded with €500,000 that can be increased.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, has positively assessed the response from individuals, self-employed workers, and companies to the call for subsidies for sustainable mobility. The initial investment of €500,000 could be increased to €900,000 if demand requires it.
Lines of aid and amounts
The first line subsidises the purchase of 100% electric vehicles with up to €12,000 for cars, vans, or light trucks, and up to €3,000 for motorcycles and mopeds. In no case does the aid exceed 40% of the market price of the vehicle.
The second line, aimed at passenger transport professionals, offers up to €10,000 for cars with up to eight seats and up to €30,000 for discretionary transport vehicles with more than eight seated places.
The third line supports the installation of charging points: up to 50% of the cost (maximum €1,500) in fleet garages; up to 60% (maximum €700) in single-family homes; and up to 60% (maximum €1,500) in community garages for private use.
Growth of registrations on the island
According to data from the Cabildo, since 2020, 127 electric vehicles have been registered in La Gomera. Since this call was opened, registrations have grown by 31%, reflecting the increasing interest in clean mobility on the island.
Curbelo has stated that these aids "are a useful tool to support citizens in the energy transition process." The subsidies are compatible with other aids, as long as the total sum does not exceed 100% of the cost of the action.
Deadline and processing
The application period remains open until the budget is exhausted. Interested parties can submit their application at the Cabildo registry or through the electronic headquarters. The resolution will be notified within a maximum period of three months from submission.
For the residents of La Gomera, these aids represent a significant saving in the purchase of an electric vehicle, whose average price is around €30,000. Additionally, the installation of charging points in community garages facilitates the transition for those living in apartment buildings.
