The Canary Cuban Solidarity Network is organising a tribute to July 26 this Saturday in Jinámar, featuring cuisine and revolutionary verses.

Next Saturday, July 25, the neighbourhood of Jinámar in Telde will host an event to mark Cuban National Rebellion Day, one of the most significant dates for the solidarity movement with the Caribbean island. The day, organised by the Canary Cuban Solidarity Network (RSCC) along with the Consulate General of Cuba in the Canary Islands, will kick off at 12:00 hours at the La Concepción Neighbourhood Association, located at 6 Granada Street.

A programme that mixes politics and tradition

The event, under the slogan "Canary Islands celebrates July 26", will include a political segment that will remember the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, which took place on July 26, 1953, considered the seed of the Cuban Revolution. Additionally, there will be a cultural space featuring verses dedicated to the historic event and figures such as Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, and the current president Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a tasting of Cuban cuisine, an added incentive to attend this event that gathers dozens of people in the Canary Islands each year. The promotional poster is already circulating among solidarity groups, featuring images of revolutionary leaders and verses that evoke the struggle.

A tradition of solidarity in the islands

The Canary Islands have a long history of support for Cuba, driven by the RSCC and other friendly organisations. This event adds to the numerous initiatives taking place across the Spanish State to commemorate July 26 and show rejection of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States. For Canary attendees, the day represents an opportunity to express their support for the Cuban people and to keep alive the memory of a key date in the island's history.

The event is open to anyone who wishes to participate, and the organisers encourage residents of Telde and other municipalities in Gran Canaria to join in. No prior registration is necessary, just arrive at the neighbourhood association's venue. Those who cannot attend can follow updates through the usual channels of the RSCC.

In previous years, similar events have gathered around a hundred people, and it is expected that this Saturday's attendance will be equally robust. The culinary tasting and festive atmosphere promise to turn the morning into a gathering of brotherhood between the Canary Islands and Cuba.
