A 68-year-old woman suffered a fall while hiking in the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, in El Paso, and had to be evacuated by GES helicopter to the Hospital General de La Palma with moderate trauma.

The alert was received by 112 at 14:24 on Saturday. A 68-year-old hiker had fallen in the Fuente la Mula area, within the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, in the municipality of El Paso. The woman presented with moderate trauma, according to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) of the Government of the Canary Islands.

112 immediately activated the necessary resources. A helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) was dispatched to the area, where rescuers located the affected individual, provided initial care, and evacuated her directly to the helipad of the Hospital General de La Palma.

Direct Transfer to Hospital

Once on the ground, the personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) took charge of the woman and transferred her to the hospital. Throughout the operation, the hiker remained conscious and stable, according to the sources consulted.

Such rescues are not uncommon in Caldera de Taburiente, a national park that attracts thousands of hikers each year. The Fuente la Mula area is one of the busiest routes, but it also has sections with uneven terrain that can lead to falls.

Recommendations for Hikers

Authorities remind the importance of taking precautions while hiking, especially in natural spaces like Caldera de Taburiente. Wearing appropriate footwear, carrying enough water, and having a charged mobile phone are basic measures. In case of emergency, 112 is the number to call.

The rescued hiker remains hospitalized at the Hospital General de La Palma, where she is recovering from her injuries. The rapid deployment of emergency teams prevented the incident from escalating.
