The Minister of the Presidency, Nieves Lady Barreto, and the Mayor of El Paso, Eloy Martín, have presented to the residents of La Rosa the project for a local development centre to be built in the La Garza area, with an investment of €450,000.
The project, designed by the technical office of the City Council, includes a 90 square metre facility that will be allocated to the Brisas de El Paso Residents' Association and a petanque court. It will also feature landscaped areas, a recreational area, and parking space. All of this will be built on a 2,600 square metre plot owned by the municipality.
A community demand that becomes reality
Nieves Lady Barreto highlighted the special value of this initiative as it arises from a demand by a residents' association. “The associative fabric of El Paso has always been an important group that has worked to promote the place where they live, and that should be the fundamental objective,” the minister stated. She recalled that her department has been strengthening the training of associations across all the islands for three years to improve their relationship with the Administration and that this project is an example of how they can be promoters of change.
For his part, Mayor Eloy Martín thanked the funds from the Ministry and the commitment of the Government to make a much-demanded infrastructure for the residents of the upper area a reality soon. “It is an important day for La Rosa and for all of El Paso,” he affirmed.
Investment and execution timelines
The construction of the facilities is financed by the Presidency Department of the Government of the Canary Islands, with an estimated cost of €450,000. Eloy Martín explained that the bidding process has already concluded and that the work will soon be awarded. The execution period is estimated to be ten months.
The residents of La Rosa will be able to enjoy a multipurpose space that will not only host the activities of the association but will also offer an outdoor recreational area. The petanque court, very popular among the elderly, will be one of the main attractions. Additionally, the landscaped areas and parking will improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood.
The new centre will complement other municipal infrastructures aimed at revitalising social life in the upper areas of the municipality. The City Council hopes that the construction will begin before the end of the year and that residents will be able to inaugurate the facility in the summer of 2027. In the meantime, the Brisas de El Paso association continues to work enthusiastically on planning activities for the new space.
